Environmental Surgery Technician - Trios Hospital

Requisition Job Description

Knowledge of functions in Surgical Services i.e.: Sterilization process sterile field boundaries supplies equipment and instruments. The Environmental Surgery Technician will be responsible for transporting patients cleaning OR suites assisting with surgical instrument cleaning putting supplies away stocking OR suites handling specimens and blood products and departmental cleaning of OR PACU Pre-op and surrounding contained areas. The EVT will work in coordination with other team members and take direction from management and other staff members.

Reports to: Supervisor - Nursing Unit FLSA: Non-exempt Education: High school diploma or equivalent - Required; Two years of college - Preferred Licenses: NA Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Essential Functions Transports patients in a safe manner.

Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety by awareness of body alignment safe gurney/bed operation arrival of patient to destination without physical harm. Uses customer care protocols for all communication with patients and families during all contact.

Demonstrates customer satisfaction techniques in all communications with peers licensed practitioners and staff. Adheres to guidelines for materials management and inventory control. Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining inventory of supplies necessary for departmental operation. Accurately receives stock supplies labels etc. from Materials Management to maintain minimum PAR levels and documents appropriately prior to storage.

Demonstrates knowledge of proper location of stock
on-stock items by placing them in the appropriate locations.

Demonstrates knowledge of the process for identification of outdating supplies/sterile items and removes them from inventory immediately on discovery. Properly documents receipt and inventory control of stock supplies. Adheres and maintains Infection Control Policies and Procedures. Consistently washes hands upon arrival and numerous times throughout the day after handling dirty instruments or equipment before and after breaks to minimize cross contamination.

Demonstrates knowledge of the basics of Infection Control and the factors that contribute to illness and contamination. Consistently adheres to the Surgical Services dress code and departmental containment to prevent cross contamination. Maintains a clean and sanitary work area. Maintains coverage of head and face by applying appropriate headgear and scrubs while in the restricted and semi-restricted areas. Consistently keeps informed of the hospital changes of Infection Control processes and compliance to policies.

Demonstrates and initiates aseptic techniques in daily work assignments.

Performs general cleaning of department surface areas racks shelves storage cabinets and all storage area. Consistently cleans OR suites with proper technique in an efficient manner to maintain turnover time of 20-30 minutes depending on the type of surgical case. Consistently performs Terminal cleaning of the OR suites and the related areas on a daily basis. Adheres to productive utilization of time and work assignments.

Demonstrates knowledge and ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks with accuracy and efficiency.

Demonstrates ability to complete assigned ongoing projects and tasks within a reasonable timeframe.

Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to adjust immediate task completion with sudden emergency or stat situations without complaint.

Demonstrates ability to perform duties with little or no direct supervision in a timely manner.

Demonstrates ability to work in a manner that achieves maximum productivity and efficiency.

Accurately reports any unfinished tasks to next shift any unfinished or incomplete tasks or assignments. Transports blood/ blood products and specimens as directed by licensed personnel. Runs errands as requested by management. Transports trash and linen to appropriate external location for future inceration.

Demonstrates consistent availability of supplies in each restroom area.

Demonstrates consistent mops and cleaning products for proper environmental cleaning and terminal cleaning of all floors and flat surfaces in OR Pre-op PACU and kitchen areas. Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining consistent scheduling of monthly cleaning schedule of outlined duties that include defrosting refrigerator arranging floor waxing and buffing from Housekeeping and other monthly duties outlined on designated list.

Demonstrates support and adherence to the Mission and Values as set forth by Kennewick Public Hospital District.

Demonstrates adherence to department policies and procedures at all times.

Demonstrates ability to recognize situations that may require alternative actions and anticipate minimizing shortage of supplies or equipment.

Demonstrates ability to recognize when to request assistance from manager/director for additional support for completion of tasks.

Demonstrates teamwork activities to assist co-workers as time allows and participate in the orientation of new members to Surgical Services: OR Pre-op PACU Maintains a professional demeanor at all times. Maintains responsibility for educational and annual certification requirements of job position.

Demonstrates complete understanding of the safety fire hazardous material policies and practices review manuals and knows personal role for departmental/hospital wide requirements. Maintains responsibility for personal job knowledge through staff meetings seminars reading of applicable materials and new information. Consistently communicates with co-workers and other staff-members any and all pertinent information regarding process flow supply issues and/or specific equipment issues. Consistently maintains confidentiality and protection of personal and patient information.

Demonstrates enthusiasm in performing and accepting any work assignments as designated by management. Non-Essential Functions
