Job Description

An exciting opportunity for rail biased Senior CAD Technician to join an established and busy in-house design team specialising in civil engineering and structures projects throughout Scotland!

Business Unit

AmcoGiffen is growing our existing Civils & Structures Design team in Scotland (Cumbernauld). We have a number of positions available at various levels for technicians and engineers who are committed to delivering the optimum design solution building on their experience and furthering their professional development.

The in-house design team consists of specialist designers responsible for design engineering on a variety of civils rail and engineering projects and frameworks including CP7 asset management contracts infrastructure projects and tendered rail / civils schemes.

Projects can typically include bridge re-constructions/replacement upgrades and refurbishments station work (platforms etc.) access for all schemes structures including bridges tunnels footbridges and wide-ranging asset management remits.

The Role

We are seeking Senior CAD Technician for the established Inhouse Design Team to further support AmcoGiffen in undertaking design across several long term Frameworks that we have secured with a number of major Clients.

The Senior CAD Technician has extensive experience and expertise providing a lead role in the CAD team and oversees the production of high-quality technical drawings. This individual provides mentorship and guidance to junior staff ensuring adherence to best practice and efficiency in draughting processes. The Senior CAD Technician liaises with Designers and other stakeholders offering insights and solutions to complex design challenges while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism.

Your day to day role will include:

  • Technical Drawing and Modelling: Utilising your mastery of Bentley and Autodesk CAD software to produce accurate 3D models and drawings. You will apply an in-depth understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM) principles and methodologies working within a Common Data Environment (CDE) to support project delivery.
  • Quality and Standards Compliance: Ensuring all technical drawings are dimensionally precise and comply with project specifications relevant industry standards Codes of Practice and CDM Regulations. You will interpret instructions from designers to produce unambiguous high-quality solutions in the appropriate format.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Proactively addressing complex technical challenges by challenging the brief proposing innovative solutions and troubleshooting issues. You will also contribute to the development of more efficient CAD processes and tools to enhance service delivery.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Liaising effectively with designers team members and AmcoGiffen Project Delivery staff to agree on technical details and ensure clear communication of requirements and change should this occur.
  • Project and Site Support: Assisting with site inspections and surveys as needed to inform drawing development and translating standard and proprietary manufacturers details onto working drawings.

Requirements

  • Academic Qualifications: HND Level or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering Qualification.
  • Professional Qualifications: Progressing to Membership of a relevant Professional Body e.g. EngTech.
  • Level / Type of Experience: 5 years of experience in a relevant civil engineering or rail environment.
  • Experience in rail bridges earthworks drainage and highways interfaces with related experience of working with AmcoGiffens key Clients including Network Rail Transport for London The Environment Agency and Canal & River Trust.
  • Good spatial awareness and problem solving skills.
  • Good literacy and mathematical skills.
  • City & Guilds or equivalent CAD related course qualification.
