What Will You Do
As a Chaplain Resident at Pine Rest youll be part of tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of your expertise and compassion. A Pine Rest chaplain resident provides emotional and spiritual support to patients families and employees regarding their personal religious or philosophical needs in accordance with Pine Rests mission and values. Our chaplain residents participate in three units of CPE over the course of a year and provide spiritual care on an individual group or class level. Mature in their faith they are compassionate about serving individuals that are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. As members of an interdisciplinary treatment teams our chaplain residents provide support and input for the holistic care of the persons served. As employees experience work stress and emotional fatigue associate chaplains offer supportive care so employees can continue to work effectively. Chaplain residents are able to relate to a wide range of ages faiths backgrounds and ethnicities. The chaplain resident must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm about the program and the Pine Rest organization.

Our services include a state-of-the-art psychiatric urgent care center and a soon-to-be-built pediatric behavioral health center outpatient inpatient partial hospitalization (day programs) assessment and testing residential addiction treatment and specialty services such as crisis response employee assistance programs forensic psychiatry and psychology and neuromodulation. On-the-job educational programs for nurses psychologists advanced practice providers psychiatrists and chaplains are equipping the next generation of care providers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide spiritual comfort through individual and group prayer and scripture reading share devotional readings/thoughts music communion and meet individual spiritual needs.
  • Respect cultural and ethnic diversity yet keep our Christian foundational values and Christian identity.
  • Conduct Sunday worship services Sundays.
  • Comfortable with assisting patients and residents with their spiritual needs. Part of this process is performing spiritual assessments and providing spiritual care based upon the assessments and memorial/funeral services for patients or residents who pass away. Memorial services have been interactive in the past allowing grieving staff and residents a chance to speak informally at the service. There is also prayer music and a message of hope.
  • Participate in the following trainings to assist with various behavioral and medical procedures.
  • Lead group. Demonstrate creativity in designing a theme for each group and providing. Ability to adapt to different cognitive and communication levels so the spiritual care needs can be suited for the individual program.
  • Limited documentation of the visit is helpful to provide the staff with insight into the spiritual needs of the patients or residents for continuity of care.
  • Documents in the Electronic Charting software summaries of individual and group ministry with patients according to Pastoral Services Department standards.
  • Responsible to uphold the healing ministry of Christ through relationships that honor integrity stewardship empowerment the promotion of diversity and professional excellence.


What Does This Role Require

Education/Experience:
Knowledge of theology spiritual development and pastoral counseling at a level normally acquired through completion of a Masters of Divinity degree or equivalent training at an accredited theologoical seminary or school.
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education training.
Endorsement as a Chaplain by ones denomination of faith group preferred.
