Job Description

Hospice Chaplain

in Mandeville Covington Slidell Hammond New Orleans Kenner and Metairie LA

We are seeking a compassionate and collaborative Chaplain to join our caring hospice this meaningful role you will walk alongside patients families and caregivers during one of lifes most sacred and challenging journeysoffering spiritual support comfort and connection in times of serious illness and loss. As a valued member of our interdisciplinary team youll work closely with nurses social workers bereavement coordinators and other care professionals to ensure holistic faith-sensitive care that honors each individuals beliefs values and needs. The Hospice Chaplainwill be responsible for:

  • Conducts assessments for ourhospice patients and their caregivers to identify theirspiritual needs.
  • Ensures that appropriate spiritual services are provided in a timely manner by either providing such to the patient/family or coordinating the provision of services with community clergy or spiritual counselors.
  • Provides direct spiritual services to patients/families according to their belief system and practice.
  • Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary group (IDG) plan of care to meet identified spiritual needs.
  • Acts as the hospice spiritual services community liaison by developing community contacts and offering hospice education to a variety of clergy counselors and congregations.
  • Provides funeral or memorial services for patients as requested.

A few must-haves for a Hospice Chaplain:

  • Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology (BD MDiv or equivalent theological degree).
  • Experience working with death and dying terminal individuals and their families or caregivers.
  • Hospice experience required
  • Medicare experience required
  • Strong interpersonal skills good communicator empathetic compassionate and resourceful
