The role will reside within the Firm Risk Managements Credit Risk Management area which is a team dedicated to evaluating credit risk transactions considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and Firm Risk Management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
This is a multi-faceted role responsible for coverage of highly structured transactions with primary focus on commercial real estate mortgage warehouse loans expanding into residential corporate and ABS collateral. The principal responsibilities include the evaluation of new transactions and subsequent collateral pledges and portfolio management and monitoring of existing facilities.
Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit market liquidity operational model and other risks.

What will you be doing
Evaluate new transactions including an independent assessment and recommendation on the credit quality proposed rating and alignment of lending opportunities to the Firms credit appetite
Collaborate with the origination team on structuring and setting-up the contractual framework for transactions
Prepare materials for Credit Senior Management and present at the Firms Credit Committee for approval
Monitor the existing portfolio of transactions including periodic reporting of risk profiles trends industry developments concentrations and conducting downside scenario analysis
Prepare timely and insightful annual and quarterly reviews including the assessment of performance against underwritten base case projections and key credit metrics
Review of due diligence materials and involvement in due diligence sessions including asset site visits and review of appraisals/valuations
Review and verify compliance certificates debt covenants and financial accounts and ensure adherence to credit and other relevant internal policies and practices
What were looking for:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Strong knowledge of the lending process transaction structures and facility documentation e.g. term sheets and facility agreements
Minimum 6-8 years of experience in covering REITs or commercial real estate lending ideally within Credit risk
Prior experience with analyzing commercial real estate structured transactions including CMBS securitizations.
Experience covering other asset backed lending is an advantage.
Understanding of financial markets financing instruments associated legal documentation and risk mitigating structures
Knowledge of basic accounting / financial concepts and familiarity with credit metrics
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders both written and verbally
Strong attention to detail and ability to provide information in usable formats (proficiency in Microsoft office including Excel PowerPoint and Word)
Fluency in English is required.
