Shift: 6:30am-3pm Mon Thru Fri

Sign-On Bonus $12000 for a 3-year commitment

Position Summary
Maintain the sterile field in the operating room being constantly vigilant to see that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. To assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments sutures and sponges during surgery.
Reports to: Director Surgery/OR / FLSA: Non-exempt

Essential Functions
Before an operation helps set up the operating room and organizes sterile table with surgical instruments and equipment sterile linens and sterile solutions.
Checks adjusts and operates equipment such as sterilizers lights suction machines electrosurgical units and diagnostic equipment.
Maintains supply of fluids such as plasma saline blood and glucose for use during operation.
Prepares patients for surgery by washing shaving and disinfecting incision sites. Also transports positions patients on table and covers them with sterile surgical drapes.
Scrubs hands and arms puts on sterile operating room attire to be able to work within the sterile field established around the patient and to handle the sterilized instruments equipment and supplies used in the procedure.
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner.
Helps prepare care for and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis holds retractors cuts sutures and applies dressings as directed.
Cleans and restocks the operating room.
Adheres to The Joint Commission (TJC) on professional standards and attends hospital in-service training sessions as directed. Provides age-appropriate care for all age groups.

Non-Essential Functions
1. Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers clients patients contractors and vendors.
2. Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information.
3. Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g. HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred
Surgical technologists graduate from surgical technology program (**Years of relevant experience may be substituted for required education/certification.**)
License / Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required one month from hire date

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
