Job Description

I. Main Responsibilities

The Communications Officer will work in support of programs and with program staff to realize communication work. The officer will also help to develop and deliver communications that advance WWFs conservation goals engage stakeholders and maintain brand alignment across internal and external channels and will represent WWF in Suriname in relevant networks. 

 

II. Major Duties 

Project & Stakeholder Communication

  • Support communication components across various projects ensuring consistent messaging stakeholder engagement and visibility of project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams partners and stakeholders to amplify WWFs voice and impact.
  • Create compelling content for various platforms including press releases newsletters social media websites and reports.
  • Support the production of multimedia content (videos graphics photography) to enhance storytelling.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication materials.

 

Strategic Communication & Planning

  • Develop and implement communication plans and campaigns to support WWFs brand and conservation goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate communication efforts providing regular reports and insights.
  • Keep up to date on key issues and trends in social political and economic developments that may impact on the organizations reputation and advise on risk mitigation strategies.

 

Media & Public Relations

  • Manage media relations including drafting press materials coordinating interviews and maintaining media contacts.
  • Coordinate events workshops and public engagement activities to raise awareness and foster community involvement.

 

Other Duties

  • Perform any other tasks reasonably assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up a clear documentation storage system for audit purposes.

 

 


Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Communications Journalism Public Relations Marketing or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience preferably in the NGO or environmental sector.
  • Regional knowledge and working experience particularly in Suriname is a must.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a willingness to represent and speak on behalf of the organization.
  • Strong team player and internal organizational networker.
  • Strong writing editing and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of media relations and content management systems.
  • Graphic design video editing or photography skills are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Passion for conservation and WWFs mission. 
  • Network of government business civil society and the donor community is an asset.
  • Strong advocacy and public relations skills with the ability to prepare advocacy and communications.
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Dutch English and Sranan Tongo would be a plus.

Additional Information :

Working Relationships

Internal:

Communication Officer will work under the supervision of Country Director Suriname & Guyana and will work in close collaboration with the Communication Officer in Guyana.

The Communication Officer will collaborate with management technical project and operation team members across Suriname and Guyana and with other WWF colleagues in the region in initiatives like the Amazon Push and Caribbean strategy.

External:

Private sector donor Local communities government agencies and public authorities and their associations media CSOs.
