The mission of the Department of Sociology is to provoke and challenge our students to foster civic engagement and changemaking towards goals of peace and social justice to inspire in students the sociological imagination and to develop their capacities for sociological investigation of the world around addition to the sociology major and minor faculty contribute to several interdisciplinary minors including Cognitive Science; Technology and Society; Law Justice and Society; Food Studies; and Biomedical Ethics.

The Department of Sociology at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty assistant professor in the area of the Sociology of Science.
We seek applicants whose teaching and research takes a critical approach to Science and Technology Studies in Sociology. Related areas of inquiry include but are not limited to the social dimensions of health and medicine socio-environmental impacts andinformation technology among others. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach our lower division-required course in Quantitative Methods and in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load is 3 courses a semester.
We seek applicants with outstanding potential for teaching research and publication along with a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Sociology of Science and Quantitative Methods as well as a range of upper-level courses within the candidates area of specialty and in accordance with the changing needs of the Department. We will prioritize candidates who engage with contemporary issues can teach a broad range of courses and who demonstrate a strong commitment to questions of democracy and social justice.

Candidates should hold an advanced degree preferably a doctorate or other terminal degree. ABD candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should also have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and research mentoring undergraduates and fostering a climate of inclusion and diversity.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience education and other factors including departmental budget.
