Job Description

Job Title: Floor Attendant / Cleaning Crew College Cafeteria

Department: Food Services
Reports To: Shift Leader
Location: Benedict College
Employment Type: Part-Time / Full-Time / Hourly

Job Summary:

The Floor Attendant / Cleaning Crew Member is responsible for maintaining a clean safe and welcoming environment in the college cafeteria. This includes cleaning dining areas restrooms food service zones and support areas such as coolers freezers and loading docks. The role supports overall cafeteria operations and contributes to a positive experience for students faculty and guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize dining areas including tables chairs floors and trash receptacles.
  • Maintain cleanliness in restrooms entryways and high-traffic zones.
  • Perform scheduled deep cleaning of coolers freezers and loading dock areas.
  • Sweep mop and vacuum floors throughout the cafeteria.
  • Refill supplies such as napkins soap paper towels and sanitizers.
  • Safely handle and use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of dining areas for special events or peak service times.
  • Monitor and report maintenance issues or safety hazards.
  • Interact courteously with students and staff during service hours responding to requests and maintaining a helpful presence.
  • Follow all health safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Support other food service staff as needed during busy periods.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial or cleaning experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to work flexible hours including mornings evenings weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced cafeteria and dining environment.
  • Standing walking and bending for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Frequent lifting and carrying (up to 30 lbs).
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals wet floors and varying temperatures (including cold storage areas).
  • Noise levels may be moderate to high during peak meal times.

Job Exposure:

  • Physical Exposure: Wet floors cleaning equipment and cold storage areas.
  • Chemical Exposure: Cleaning agents disinfectants and sanitizers.
  • Health & Safety Exposure: Must follow strict sanitation and safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure a safe environment.
  • Social Exposure: Regular interaction with students faculty and staff; expected to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor.
