Location: Village Market Deli Hours: Part-Time Hourly Pay: $18.10 - $24.42
Job Function: Primary responsibilities include but not limited to setting up prepping staging and disassembling all salad bar foods items and equipment which includes washing rinsing cutting slicing chopping storing and disposing. Secondary responsibilities include but not limited to washing dishes from any department and various housekeeping tasks during slower customer traffic times.
Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
General
Build and stage the salad bar every day as scheduled;
Keep the salad bar continuously stocked with fresh food items;
Disassemble the salad bar by following proper procedures so that it is ready to be easily prepped for the next business day;
Prepare pre-packaged salads and merchandise them for sale;
Follow proper food handling safety policies as defined by the TN Department of Agriculture;
Wash and put away salad bar department dishes;
Reports to the deli manager or deli assistant manager for the days work assignments;
Submit purchase orders of needed supplies to Deli management (usually twice per week);
Notify deli management of situations problems or suggestions to improve the department;
Helps keep all dishes washed and put away during slower customer traffic times;
Maintains a Christian atmosphere in your area by precept and example;
Performs deep cleaning and extra cleaning when needed;
Performs all other reasonable business-related functions as assigned.
Merchandising
Keep the salad bar fully stocked based on product availability and substitute when needed;
Display salad bar containers in an attractive appealing neat and colorful manner;
Keep salad bar foods rotated in accordance with departmental procedures and product code dates and remove all out all out-of-date items;
Keep manager or other designated personnel aware of low inventory conditions or spoilage problems.
Maintenance
Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store procedures plus state and local health regulations;
Assist in keeping all food preparation display and storage areas clean clear and in good order;
Respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards;
Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance a minimum of one time per shift and use and maintain equipment in good working order;
Immediately advise management of any maintenance or equipment problems.
Security
Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses
Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer and employee actions and behavior and report to management of any abnormal situations;
Protect store assets at all times.
Personnel
Assist in training students when requested or directed to do so;
Maintain good communications in the department and throughout the organization;
Notify department manager of personnel situations or policy violations.
Requirements and Conditions (Essential Functions) (Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities)
Education and/or Experience:
A high school degree or GED equivalent is strongly preferred;
Food service experience a plus but not required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read write analyze interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand:
Instructions for operating or using various food preparation tools/utensils
Company and TN Department of Agriculture handbooks policies and procedures
Other written job-related documents
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in circumstances where only limited standardization may exist;
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in diagram oral schedule or written form.
Other Skills or Requirements:
Must possess good judgement of how and when to prep stock and remove perishable food products;
Must be able to correctly prioritize duties between the salad bar and dishwashing stations;
After sufficient training be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with all department procedures;
Be able to handle special request from customers accurately;
Be able to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets the minimum standards for productivity accuracy cleanliness harmony and safety established at the store.
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting standing bending and reaching;
Must be able to lift up to 50lb with relative ease;
Requires manual dexterity and strength sufficient to use food preparation utensils (knives can openers scoops spreaders etc.) and using an industrial dishwasher;
Requires normal range of motion hearing and vision;
Be able to work with and taste fruits vegetables grains oils spices and other agents without negative allergic consequences.
Work Conditions
The work environment includes occasional exposure to in or around refrigerated and freezer storage areas as well as higher temperature and humid areas (near ovens and the dishwasher) and areas where a wet floor is common such as around the automatic industrial dishwasher;
Work area is well-lit and ventilated;
Typically the noise level in the work environment is moderate however on occasion it can be somewhat noisy when power tools deli equipment or facility equipment are in use;
Being able to access and work in cold and sub-frozen temperatures (walk-in coolers and freezers) in a limited timeframe is expected and required.
Special Requirement: Must have a strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
