Job Description

Will you join us Job Summary Assists secondary vocational education teachers in the delivery of training and instructional programs to students with disabilities. Provides support to special education students assigned to industry-based training programs by orienting students to specific job tasks and coaching them in work ready behavior. Monitors students classroom and on-the-job learning activities and documenting student progress and/or problems. Encourages students in the development and improvement of interpersonal social and employability skills. Essential Functions Assists the career and technical education instructor in the implementation and delivery of the vocational education program. Interprets in the instructors directions for students and assists them in completing assigned tasks. Provides reinforcement of theory lessons skills and safety techniques. Circulates through the classroom and/or school/facility as required by work assignment. Provides support to students assigned to industry-based training programs. Orients students to job site and basic organizational rules. Trains students in specific job skills while on the job. Inspects work for adherence to quality control specifications. Coaches students in peer and supervisory relationships. Monitors students job performance and reports progress and/or problems to immediate supervisor. Provides training to special education students in the use of mechanical tools measuring instruments and equipment. Inventories and issues materials and tools to students. Oversees and monitors students cleaning the work areas. Assists in mobility training. Assists in the selection of instructional aids and materials. Assists the instructor in skills demonstrations.

Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Two yeas of full-time experience working with secondary age youth or adults with disabilities. OR Two years of full-time experience working in a skilled trade area. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of: o appropriate work habits social skills and attitudes necessary for successful adjustment to a work environment. o basic math skills including measurement decimals and fractions. Demonstrated ability to: o follow and interpret step by step instructions and provide necessary guidance to special education students in doing the same. o learn to adapt training methods to the abilities of students with disabilities. o exercise patience and understanding in providing emotional support and encouragement to special education students. o communicate effectively both orally and in writing. o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
