Job Summary:
The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for dishes kitchen equipment and food preparation areas in a college cafeteria. This role also supports general cleaning duties across various areas of the cafeteria to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash dishes utensils pots pans and kitchen equipment using industrial dishwashing machines and manual methods.
- Maintain cleanliness of dishwashing area including floors sinks and counters.
- Clean and sanitize coolers freezers front dining area and loading dock as scheduled or assigned.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of clean items.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables according to cafeteria procedures.
- Assist with cleaning kitchen and food prep areas as needed.
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Support kitchen staff with additional cleaning or prep tasks as requested.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced physically demanding environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Valid Food Handlers Certificate (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to work flexible hours including mornings evenings weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions:
- Hot humid and fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Standing for long periods (up to 68 hours per shift).
- Frequent bending lifting and carrying (up to 30 lbs).
- Exposure to hot water steam and cleaning chemicals.
- Noise levels may be moderate to high during peak service times.
Job Exposure:
- Physical Exposure: Heat steam wet floors heavy lifting and cold storage areas.
- Chemical Exposure: Detergents sanitizers and other cleaning agents.
- Health & Safety Exposure: Must follow strict sanitation and safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.
- Social Exposure: Limited direct customer interaction; regular communication with kitchen and service staff.
