Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Director the Assistant Director oversees Honors advising and supervises Honors advisors. The Assistant Director is the primary liaison to the school and college advising centers registrars office and many campus partners. The Assistant Director oversees aspects of Honors student success and retention community programming including development of new topics student thesis and civic engagement work participates in the Honors application and admissions process; assists in representing the Honors Program to internal and external constituencies particularly regarding advising and student success.
Responsibilities
Oversee and administer general Honors advising including supervision and training of Honors academic advisors and coordination with schools and colleges on advising and other curricular issues. Advise and counsel 250 Honors students annually including all the more complex advising cases. Help students coordinate Honors requirements with major. requirements; career mentoring; post-graduate education counseling; explore internships and networking options with students. Help undecided/exploring students think through alternatives and devise a plan to select a major. Work as part of the team keeping student records accurate and up to date in the Honors database. Help students manage academic stress. Participate in recruitment and admissions processes for Honors applicants. Leads and Facilitates the Honors new student orientation process and first year living learning community. Responsible for all internal communications to Honors students. Represent Honors at student-facing campus events. Mentor juniors and seniors to generate thesis topics that map to their interests and strengths; approach potential thesis advisors; craft strong proposals and updates; and troubleshoot problems. Track student progress to successful completion of the thesis.
