Job Description

This is a pooled position for Madison and Little Mountain Elementary School

The Dual Language Elementary Classroom Teacher provides learning opportunities and instruction to students who are participating in the Dual Language Program. Our district is expanding its dual language program with the goal of transitioning select elementary schools to dual language instruction by the school year. Successful candidates may initially be assigned to teach in English during the school year as part of the programs phased expansion.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and highly qualified Elementary Classroom Teacher-Dual Language to support elementary-aged children in a diverse inclusive school environment. The ideal candidate will provide developmentally appropriate culturally responsive instruction that promotes academic achievement language development and social-emotional growth in both Spanish and English.

The Elementary Classroom Teacher-Dual Language will collaborate with other educators to deliver an integrated curriculum grounded in elementary education principles while supporting biliteracy development. This role supports the districts commitment to equity and excellence eliminating barriers to student success and fostering bilingualism and biliteracy throughout the elementary years of learning.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Plan and provide clear intentionally focused and evidence-based instruction using state standards subject matter content district curriculum and student needs.
  • Participate in collaborative planning programming and instructional activities focused on improving instructional practices and student learning.
  • Recognize individual student strengths and learning needs and develop strategies and interventions to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Use multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress modifying instruction and improving student learning.
  • Integrate technology into instruction to support digital literacy and engagement.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Maintain and submit information/records including student progress.
  • Participate in various meetings for the purpose of implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Attend all relevant professional development and training opportunities.
  • Comply with supervision and evaluation procedures.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff if applicable.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Jobs Requirements-Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skills Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of this position include:
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences in Spanish and English that align with elementary education standards and support grade-level academic achievement.
  • Foster bilingualism biliteracy and socio-emotional growth through integrated instruction across all content areas.
  • Conduct observations and formative assessments to monitor academic progress language development and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create a nurturing inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of students and their families.
  • Collaborate with families colleagues and specialists to support holistic child development and academic success.
  • Maintain clear respectful and culturally responsive communication with families in both Spanish and English.
  • Develop routines and classroom management strategies that foster independence confidence and self-regulation.
  • Incorporate technology and hands-on activities that engage students across all content areas and promote cross-cultural understanding.
  • Promote curiosity creativity literacy and numeracy through purposeful student-centered experiences.
  • Attend staff meetings engage in professional development and contribute to school-wide efforts to support elementary learners.
  • Support the development and implementation of a Spanish language and culture program in the elementary school environment.
  • Work collaboratively with families from culturally racially and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Encourage meaningful family and community engagement in school and classroom activities.

Additional Requirements:

Required:

  • Valid Washington State teaching certification
  • Elementary Education endorsement
  • Strong proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and English with an Advanced-Low score on the
  • ACTFL (assessment administered during the hiring process)
  • Understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in team settings

Preferred:

  • Endorsement or additional certification in English Learner or Bilingual Education
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in Spanish language bilingual or dual language settings
  • Masters degree in Education Spanish Education Bilingual Education or a related field
  • Experience in Spanish language dual language or immersion programs
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices in elementary learning environments
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and language development
  • Experience supporting culturally and economically diverse children and families
  • Additional endorsements in ELL and/or reading

Benefits:
Mount Vernon School District employees are eligible for SEBB medical dental vision life insurance AD&D and long-term disability (LTD) coverage if they are anticipated to work 630 hours or more during the school year. Eligibility for retirement benefits applies to employees working 3.5 hours per day or more for five or more consecutive months. We also offer optional tax-sheltered annuities including the Omni 403(b) and the Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave vacation leave (for 260-day employees only) and sick leave are prorated based on full-time employment status.
