Job Description

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 2 is now accepting applications for the Apprenticeship Highway Maintenance Worker 1 program for the following counties:FultonHenry Lucas Ottawa Seneca Counties and the Northwood Outpost and Bridge Dept (at Northwood Outpost)These areTEMPORARY unclassified appointments not to exceed 1000 hours.

ODOTs Mission Statement:

To provide a transportation system that is safe accessible well maintained and positioned for the future.

What You Will Do*:
Hands-on maintenance of traffic flagging and safety-related training Make our system work better
Introduction to county routes and use of two-way radios
Pre-trip inspections equipment repair procedures cleaning and refueling equipment
Highway maintenance and repair work activities (e.g. patch potholes spread berm repair guardrails crack seal litter pick-up drainage vegetation management such as weed eating brush cutting and mowing)
Receive CDL preparation and introduction to and operation of heavy equipment (e.g. dump truck) and hand tools (e.g. chainsaw)
Introduction to winter readiness (e.g. spreader attachment plow blade replacement front end loader assessment)

*A full position description will be provided at interview.


Who we are looking for:
- Energetic and punctual
- Valid drivers license with a good driving record
- At least 18 years old OR 17 years old and graduated from high school

Note: If involved in driving motorized snow & ice control equipment must also have valid commercial drivers license.
