Position Information
The Department of Enterprise Services is hiring aLead Building Maintenance Repairer for the Honolulu Zoo. Under the general supervision of the Park Grounds Maintenance Superintendent this position supervises and participates in a variety of maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of buildings structures and the equipment in the Zoo.
What Youll Do- Supervise and participate in:
- The inspection scheduling of assignments fabrication maintenance and repair work of buildings structures equipment and facilities located and utilized at the Honolulu Zoo.
- Carpentry type repairs replacement installation and construction.
- Fabrication repair and installation of steel sheet metal pipe materials.
- Masonry repairs replacement installation or construction.
- Painting repairs and painting of new construction work.
- Electrical type repairs/servicing replacement installation or construction work.
- Plumbing repairs/servicing replacement installation or construction.
- Perform other related work needed for the position.
Special Work Requirements:- May be scheduled to work evenings weekends and holidays.

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show demonstrated competence in performing the journey level duties of a Building Maintenance Repairer. (A Building Maintenance Repairer performs skilledjourney level work in maintaining and repairing buildings structures and the equipment housed therein.)
Such experience must have demonstrated:- Knowledge of the practices tools equipment and materials used in the carpentry painting plumbing masonry mechanical and electrical trades.
- Knowledge of plumbing and electrical equipment in buildings.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to determine maintenance and repair needs involving a variety of building trades.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools utilized in a variety of building trades.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to estimate time and materials needs to perform a job.
- Ability to encourage safety practices and enforce safety rules.
- Ability to assign and review work of subordinates engaged in maintenance and repair work.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid Hawaii State drivers license as required. (The current vacancy requires a valid drivers license.)Examination Process
