Job Description

St Margarets Anglican Girls School and St Aidans Girls School are two of Queenslands leading independent schools fostering in students confidence compassion academic excellence and a lifelong love of learning. We are currently recruiting to cover parental leave in our highly effective and dynamic finance team in the role of Accountant. This role is predominately based at St Margarets Anglican Girls School in Ascot. This opportunity is from August 2025 to July 2026.

THE ROLE

With the support of a highly experienced and dynamic finance leadership team and Senior Accountants this is the ideal opportunity for a qualified Accountant who has a thirst for learning and would thrive in a dynamic team of finance professionals. The position is responsible for providing general accounting and compliance reporting across all elements of the schools financial obligations. The environment is highly dynamic and no two days are the same. Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Contributing towards preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports for the schools and other related entities including commentary of variances to budget;
  • Contributing towards preparing quarterly financial Board Report;
  • Preparing and reviewing journals;
  • Administer financial aspects of school activities such as camps buses fairs fundraising donations and ancillary operations;
  • Supervising the Fixed Asset Registers monthly depreciation calculations and work in progress reconciliations for the schools as allocated;
  • Supporting the Finance Officers both in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure these functions are completed in a timely manner particularly during times of leave or peak periods;
  • Providing high level financial advice and support to staff of the Schools and other related entities;
  • Assisting with budget preparation;
  • Driving process improvement strategies; and
  • Scheduling and prepare Government and statutory returns for the Schools

ABOUT YOU

You will be a self-starter who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. You will:

  • Possess relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Bring previous experience as an Accountant where you have built your knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting obligations
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Possess the ability to build strong relationships with others building a high level of trust and engagement through the quality of your work and people skills
  • Have the ability to demonstrate initiative along with the ability to maintain systems and procedures to meet strict deadlines and commitments
