Job Summary:We are seeking experienced Line Design Engineers to join our Transmission Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing and supporting the construction of high-voltage transmission lines (HVTL) providing guidance on engineering standards and ensuring high-quality execution of outsourced and internal line design projects. The ideal candidate is technically skilled in PLS-CADD understands industry standards and thrives in a collaborative utility environment.
Key Responsibilities:Apply engineering design criteria and software tools (e.g. PLS-CADD) for HVTL design
Prepare construction specifications design options and material estimates
Conduct quality assurance reviews for PLS-CADD line models and construction packages
Support HVTL system planning design operation construction and maintenance
Ensure alignment with NESC and Southern Company design standards
Collaborate with construction and maintenance teams during daily operations and emergency restoration
Guide and oversee contractors on outsourced design packages ensuring quality and accuracy
Assist in developing and enforcing system design standards and criteria
Transmit complete construction packages and specifications to the field
Advanced knowledge of transmission line design practices
Proficiency with transmission line design (TLD) software especially PLS-CADD
Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong work ethic and a team-focused positive attitude
Experience interfacing with plant staff engineering teams and vendors
Professional Engineer (PE) License
Experience supporting emergency restoration efforts
Familiarity with Southern Company standards and internal systems
Work Environment:
Office-based with occasional field visits as required
Travel to project sites and construction areas as needed
