Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe COBOL Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing developing testing and maintaining COBOL-based applications within IBM Mainframe environments. This role will also involve supporting system modernization efforts and ensuring seamless integration of legacy systems with emerging technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design write test and maintain high-quality COBOL programs based on business and system requirements.

  • Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of legacy Mainframe systems.

  • Participate in system modernization or migration projects involving COBOL-based applications.

  • Conduct unit testing integration testing and system testing to validate functionality.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including program specifications and flowcharts.

  • Ensure adherence to industry standards security protocols and best practices in COBOL application development.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve application issues and provide technical support.

  • Perform debugging and troubleshooting using mainframe tools such as Xpediter and Abend-AID.


Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in COBOL programming (COBOL-85 COBOL II or later versions).

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Mainframe environments (e.g. z/OS OS/390).

  • Strong knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) and related mainframe utilities.

  • Experience with DB2 IMS or VSAM for mainframe data management.

  • Ability to develop and maintain both batch and online COBOL programs.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with mainframe debugging tools like Xpediter or Abend-AID.

  • Familiarity with version control and deployment processes in a mainframe environment.


Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of additional mainframe programming languages such as Assembler or PL/I.

  • Exposure to modernization frameworks or tools that support COBOL system upgrades.
