Under the supervision of the Project Manager this position is responsible for the effective operation of various wastewater and drinking water facilities within the Veolia Huron Hub. The role involves ensuring that safety and environmental compliance meet all regulatory and corporate standards at all operated sites. Lead Water and Wastewater Operator is responsible for the maintenance of water and wastewater treatment processing disposal and testing equipment at the facility. This operator purifies water to meet both permit and operational requirements. They are fully qualified to perform the most complex tasks and may also lead the work of others.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operations Leadership
- Lead shift operations of automatic and semi-automatic machines including pumps engines generators valves gates mixers conveyors blowers chemical feed equipment and sludge processing equipment
- Makes independent decisions concerning process control changes.
- trains operators in plant procedures and practices through the use of the On The Job training program
- Monitor flow meters gauges ratios pressures via instrument panels computer terminals and PLCs
- Maintain detailed shift logs of operating conditions and data
- Process Control & Quality
- Ensure conformance to process specifications
- Diagnose operational problems and implement corrective actions
- Perform field tests (chemical physical biological) for chemical dosage and process control
- Sample sludge and solid streams for solids balancing
- Monitor and manage process chemical supplies
- Report and act upon non-conformances with QACS Representatives
- Attend MECP site inspections
- Maintenance & Facility Management
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance including lubrication and minor adjustments
- Clean equipment including lime grit hoppers lime slakers and Actiflo lamella tubes
- Maintain facility grounds and equipment
- Operate plant vehicles
- Ensure proper waste disposal according to safety and environmental policies
- Administrative & Communication
- Coordinate with Project Manager Maintenance Manager Office Manager and operators
- Assist with procurement
- Identify and research facility efficiencies
- Prepare budget estimates for client consideration
- Develop and follow Standard Operating Procedures and Contingency Plans
- Calibrate online and handheld instrumentation per manufacturer specifications
- Collect and prepare samples for accredited labs
- Maintain regulatory compliance records
- Optimize water treatment processes through chemical dosage assessment
Qualifications :
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
- Valid Class III of Ontario Certification in Water Treatment and/or Water Distribution as well as OIT or higher certification in WasteWater Treatment for work assigned
- Typically holds or is working toward a class III or IV level treatment certificate. (Requires minimum water/wastewater license as required by regulatory agencies at the site).
- 3-4 years experience minimum as a water and/or wastewater treatment operator in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods techniques and practices of water and wastewater treatment.

- Must have the ability to read write and comprehend English (operational process safety and quality instructions).
- Previous experience in Management and/or Supervisor Training and leadership abilities
- Valid drivers license
