Job Description

The Bensalem School District is anticipating a position to open in the Payroll Department. The position goal is to provide payroll services for the Bensalem School District in an efficient and effective manner.

POSITION TITLE:

Technician - Payroll

CLASSIFICATION:

Technician; Pay Grade SR Secretary

REPORTS TO:

The Payroll Technician is directly responsible to the Accounting Supervisor in concert with the Financial Manager.

POSITION GOAL:

To process payroll requirements of the School District effectively and efficiently.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Possess appropriate level of education and experience to perform the essential duties relative to the position.
  • Ability to comprehend analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures governmental regulations safety manuals etc. and to generate routine reports and correspondence pertinent to the essential job duties.
  • Ability to communicate and to demonstrate interpersonal skills effectively in dealing with students staff parents community members and educational agencies as related to performance of the duties of the position.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations and to apply mechanical skills and technical skills to accomplish the essential duties of the position.
  • Ability to interpret and to carry out instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks cooperatively and to adjust to interruptions variables or changes in standardized situations.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Applicable knowledge of computers word processing and payroll applications.
  3. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collects enters into payroll system and verifies payroll data.
  2. Verifies payroll checks before distribution.
  3. Becomes and remains knowledgeable of the payroll system.
  4. Demonstrates a working knowledge of all employee contracts as related to duties.
  5. Maintains current W-4 information and related documentation for payroll deductions.
  6. Maintains current employee personal payroll information by employee classification.
  7. Prepares all payroll deductions and documentation to be forwarded to appropriate financial institutions.
  8. Verifies employment and salary histories for various agencies as requested.
  9. Records and maintains master absence records.
  10. Answers office telephones and responds appropriately to requests for information.
  11. Makes telephone calls as directed by immediate supervisor or to accomplish school tasks.
  12. Prepares a variety of material such as letters memos reports etc. from rough drafts or corrected copy.
  13. Obtains gathers and organizes pertinent data and puts it into usable form.
  14. Maintains a comprehensive filing system for payroll department.
  15. Operates office machinery as necessary.
  16. Orders receives and maintains supplies as needed.
  17. Receives and routes all incoming mail and outgoing mail.
  18. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned or necessary for an efficient operation.

The duties of this job are normally performed in the following manner: The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel; to reach with hands and arms; to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand to walk and to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
