At Factorial were looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to join our API & Marketplace Team within the Platform Domain.

The Engineering team at large

At Factorial youll be part of a team of 150 product engineers. We look for talented people who are curious proactive and have great communication skills. People who are at the forefront of developing tools that help teams become the best versions of themselves.

Youll work in a multicultural English-speaking environment where your technical acumen creative problem-solving abilities and passion for user-centric products will directly contribute to our mission of improving HR processes for SMEs worldwide. Its your choice to work from home in our Barcelona offices or mixing both.

The Role

Our stack is mainly Ruby on Rails and React. We dont look to match the stack. On the contrary the experience with multiple languages and frameworks that brings perspective and a set of tools in the toolbelt. Besides we are continuously evolving the ecosystem of engineering adopting new architectures and paradigms and evolving current ones. You are expected to contribute to the next software architecture stage at Factorial.

This role is in a Platform team. This means you will be doing product twice addressing not only user needs but also designing the best tools for both internal and external developers. You will be building not only integrations but also facilitating developer partners to have the best possible experience building their own.

Your first steps in Factorial:

Youll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period where you will:

  1. Read a lot: Learn about Factorial our product our team and our clients.
  2. Learn a lot: Pair with each team member at least once to understand what they are working on.
  3. Code a lot: Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins.
  4. Fail a lot: We work with local development environments so you can start coding fast. And failing going back retrying We understand this is part of the path so we will encourage you to be brave!
  5. Talk a lot: Be fully integrated into the teams rituals from day one.

After your onboarding your day-by-day work will look like the following:

  • You will be a product engineer taking ownership of big initiatives and being interested in the outcome not just the output. About the outcome youll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
  • A Senior Engineer at Factorial influences requirements definition and is autonomous in delivering a polished solution that matches those. You participate in the teams decision through Requests For Comments (RFCs) that you write yourself or read others.
  • You will be involved in customer calls to learn about their pains & needs.
  • You will review code daily and get feedback on your code at every pull request from all team members including juniors.
  • You will learn from the entire team both on technical topics (performance architecture) and core skills in an environment driven by engineering quality. You will also mentor junior team members and help them learn from your experience.

The hiring process

If you apply heres what to expect:

  1. A first conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level. We will also check our Engineering Rubrics (check them out they are open!) and the salary in your position.
  2. A second conversation with the Teams Engineering Manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team their needs your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation.
  3. A Live Engineering Challenge with two Factorial engineers: At Factorial were passionate about hiring engineers who can think clearly communicate well leverage the best tools and learn very this challenge were not looking for a finished product but for how you structure problems ask questions use technology and reason about solutions.
  4. One last coffee-chat with our CTO where you can get all the answers about Factorials culture business vision or anything else that interests you.
