The Chassis Lab Test Engineer plays a key role in supporting vehicle development by coordinating and documenting all walk-in test activities related to chassis systems tire operations brake testing and cradle setups within the validation lab. Working in a dynamic unscheduled environment this position ensures test execution aligns with vehicle program requirements engineering specifications and development timelines.
Partnering closely with UAW and SBU skilled trades engineering teams and lab management the engineer drives continuous improvement by owning and analyzing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure lab efficiency test throughput and quality. This role contributes directly to the vehicle validation process by ensuring accurate documentation timely test completion and effective communication across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support all walk-in chassis and tire test requests including tire swaps flat tire diagnostics scrap analysis brake testing chassis system validation and cradle assembly ensuring alignment with vehicle development objectives.
- Collaborate closely with UAW and SBU skilled trades to ensure all test setups and executions meet engineering requirements safety protocols and quality standards critical to vehicle program success.
- Own and manage lab KPIs focused on test turnaround resource utilization defect rates and operational efficiency to support vehicle program milestones.
- Document test configurations procedures and results comprehensively using systems such as Teamcenter and PSAP to maintain traceability and compliance with program standards.
- Monitor lab workload resource allocation and backlog to optimize test sequencing and support vehicle development timelines.
- Analyze KPI trends to identify process inefficiencies or quality issues; communicate findings and recommend improvements to engineering and lab leadership.
- Prepare detailed reports and dashboards for program management quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within the vehicle development process.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 03 years of experience supporting automotive vehicle development testing or validation processes
- Solid understanding of chassis systems (suspension braking steering) and tire-related operations within a vehicle development context
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to track interpret and report KPIs related to lab and program performance
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with skilled trades engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders
- Detail-oriented approach to technical documentation and test data accuracy
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced reactive environment with no pre-scheduled testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with UAW and SBU union personnel within an automotive development or validation lab
- Familiarity with brake dynamometer operations hydraulic test systems and chassis cradle setups relevant to vehicle validation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Power BI or similar tools for KPI visualization and reporting
- Experience with engineering documentation platforms such as Teamcenter PSAP and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of fixture design and fatigue/vibration testing support within a vehicle development framework
