DescriptionPOSITION DESCRIPTION
- To lead students enrolled in the Academic Civic Engagement (ACE) course Music 347: Somali Music & Community Engagement n periodic in-class reflection sessions on their experience in the course while the course instructor is not present.
- To assist the course instructor with logistics around community relationship building scheduling hours tracking transportation budget and ongoing course design work (during a weekly one-hour meeting to be scheduled upon hiring).
- To attend class most days during the spring semester (T 8-9:25 am Th 8-9:20 am) to get a sense of the course priorities and student experiences in order to support the students and faculty instructor effectively.
- Experience with and/or interest in Academic Civic Engagement (for example a student who has already completed at least one ACE course) is required. Experience with music and/or dance is not required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The ACE Course Assistant will:
- Determine precise tasks in conjunction with the faculty member and the ACE office
- Create relevant schedule and hours tracking mechanism for the particular course
- Confirm placement sites and logistics and assist with site coordinator communication
- Attend class on most days
- Lead periodic in-class reflection sessions
- Meet weekly with faculty member outside of class
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Student in academic good standing.
- Must have completed an ACE course previously or had significant community engagement experience.
- Must be available during the class time (T 8-9:25 am Th 8-9:20 am)
Experience: Students should have experience working in community engagement settings.
Skills: Ideal candidate would have skills in the following:
- Google Docs Spreadsheets Forms Moodle
- Phone call and email professional etiquette
- Verbal communication and deep listening skills for peer reflection
- Drivers license preferred to assist with transportation to community sites
