$19.72 - $22.86 hourly

Placement dependent on experience in public education

183 Days a year

Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 3:00 pm / 6 hours daily

ABOUT THE DISTRICT

River Delta is a K-12 district with an enrollment of 1880. The District has 8 small schools: (4) K-6 elementary schools; (2) middle schools; and (2) high schools serving the communities of Clarksburg Hood Courtland Walnut Grove Ryde Locke Isleton Rio Vista Birds Landing and Collinsville.

The River Delta Unified School District sits in three counties Sacramento Solano and Yolo. Although it is a tri-county district it is served by the Sacramento County Office of Education.
River Delta Unified School District is committed to providing a quality education for all students and has high standards and expectations for students success in school. We are committed to ensuring that our students meet these standards and that our clients expectations for educational excellence are not compromised. The District continually improves and expands its curriculum by implementing new programs and broadening the instructional strategies used in the classroom.

RIVER DELTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT II CLASSROOM AIDE

DEFINITION

To assist a certified teacher by providing instructional support to students in the classroom; to assist in maintaining a safe environment in the classroom and on the playground; and to perform related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARCTERISTICS

This is the intermediate level class in the Instructional Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the Instructional Assistant I by the performance of the tasks and duties assisting students in the classroom and providing support to teachers which require ability to work with written materials and prepare written reports. This class differs from the Instructional Assistant III in that the latter required additional training for assisting students that have learning or physical disabilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from Principal Vice Principal or assigned teacher.

DUTIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist teachers in the classroom; circulate in the classroom and work with students requiring additional assistance in small groups and as a class collaboratively helping students achieve standards of conduct and responsibility as a member of the class.
  2. Implements and modifies curriculum such as learning materials and activities as directed by the teacher.
  3. Evaluates and identifies each students readiness skills according to age ability and interest as directed by teacher.
  4. Work with students on different subject matters including spelling reading and written language; tutor students in study skills test taking homework preparation and other study techniques; motivate students.
  5. Perform record keeping functions in the classroom including taking attendance record absences and accept notes from parents.
  6. Collects anecdotal notes and other data such as student behavior observations and assessment results for the purpose of providing information to teacher or other district personnel.
  7. Collect student homework and test papers; collect papers and record grades; collaborate with teacher in preparing progress reports.
  8. Provide supportive assistance to teachers including copying typing filing and related clerical functions compile material for lesson plans.
  9. Assists in the preparation of a welcoming and stimulating classroom environment including consideration of safety and support for children in the classroom during lunch and on the playground.
  10. Supervises or assists in the supervision of student eating areas; enforces school procedures related to eating areas including cleaning lunch tables trash disposal and related matters.
  11. Supervises playground activities of students during lunch and recess; prevents rough and dangerous play activities and ensures that students stay in designated areas.
  12. Uses positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity; promotes and encourages high standards for student behavior; encourages a clean campus environment.
  13. Implements standards set by the teacher of appropriate student behavior for the purpose of achieving effective participation in activities providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  14. Assists in emergencies; uses good judgment regarding appropriate action to assist an injured or physically ill student; may administer minor first aid; summons further aid as necessary; reports accidents.
  15. Reports on unsafe conditions.
  16. Performs a variety of routine clerical duties in support of school operations including but not limited to copying laminating and binding materials and preparing materials for distribution.
  17. May supervise students in a classroom or during various activities.
  18. Consistent and regular attendance is required due to the nature of the job.
  19. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  20. Escorting students who need to leave the classroom for any reason.
  21. Accompanying students and teacher on field trips or outings

Marginal Functions:

  1. Ensure a safe and clean learning environment for students.
  2. Prepare displays.
  3. Assist in set-up and serve during morning nutrition.
  4. Attends trainings and meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and receiving updated current information on best practices as directed by the site or District administrator.
  5. Perform miscellaneous clerical functions as needed.
  6. Basic computer skills for emails training and student assistance.
  7. May interpret/translate communications to parents/students if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Student behavior management strategies and techniques.

Correct English usage including spelling grammar and punctuation.

Basic First Aid and CPR.

Concepts of child growth development and behavior; characteristics of school age children.

Health and safety regulations as related to the position.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Some experience in dealing with school-age children in a formal or informal environment; demonstrated experience in dealing with situations involving conflict is desirable.

Training:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred not required.

License or Certificate:

Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

Possession of an associate degree with an Educational medical or social services field focus or passing score on district proficiency exam for employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environmental Conditions:

Classroom and outdoor environment; work closely with others.

Subject to exposure to individuals who may exhibit abusive or violent behaviors.

Physical Conditions:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop bend kneel crouch reach and twist; to lift carry push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Able to lift thirty (30) pounds frequently and sixty (60) pounds occasionally.

Able to push and pull objects weighing up to sixty (60) pounds.
