Join our buildings and grounds department for the Fort Osage School District. This position is a4hour a night position qualifying for applicable vacation personal and sick time. Report times vary but are for evening position qualifies for District retirement contributions.
Pay for the 2025-2026school year begins at $16.53 per hour (starting July 1) but steps on the scale are determined based on previous related custodial experiences.
This position reports to the Head Day Custodian Building Principal and/orDistrict Custodial Supervisor.
Purpose Statement
The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of providing custodial and maintenance services in and around district facilities; ensuring an attractive sanitary and safe environment for students staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events.
This job reports to Head Custodian and/or Building Principal

SKILLS are requiredto performmultiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order tomeet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment common tools etc.; and adhering to safety practices.
KNOWLEDGE is requiredto performbasic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily performthe functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning; safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is requiredto schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is requiredto work with others; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operateequipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity ofindividuals; work with specific job-related data; and utilizea variety of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may berequired to identifyissues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working with constant interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervision; providing information and/or advising others; Utilization of some resources from other work units may berequired to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions requirethe following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some climbing and balancing frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant finefinger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting 75% walking and 20% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment. .
