Job Description

Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and highly organized Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our school health team Cecil County MD. The school nurse will support student health and wellness by delivering direct care managing chronic conditions and promoting a healthy school environment. The ideal candidate has strong clinical judgment excellent communication skills and a passion for working with children and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students for illness injuries and medical emergencies
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and school policy
  • Maintain accurate health records immunization compliance and student medication logs
  • Develop care plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g. asthma diabetes allergies)
  • Collaborate with parents teachers and administrators to support student health needs
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings when required
  • Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and assist with infection control protocols
  • Educate students and staff on health and wellness topics (e.g. hygiene nutrition first aid)
  • Respond to health-related emergencies and coordinate care with emergency services as need

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid license in the state of the state of Maryland
  • CPR/BLS certification required (First Aid/ACLS preferred)
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (pediatric public health or school nursing preferred)
  • Excellent communication assessment and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by school district policy)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with children or adolescents in clinical or educational settings
  • Familiarity with FERPA and HIPAA regulations in school environments
  • Bilingual in Insert Language a plus (e.g. Spanish Creole)
  • Knowledge of special education accommodations and student care coordination

Schedule & Environment:

  • Typical hours follow the school calendar (e.g. 7:30 AM 3:30 PM MondayFriday)
  • Summers weekends and major holidays off (varies by district)
  • Comfortable and collaborative school-based environment
