The London Metal Exchange (LME) is the worlds leading industrial metals marketplace setting reference prices which are used globally. The efficiency and trust in our marketplace the financial clout of Londons wider financial sector and the strength and robustness provided by Londons legal system set us apart from any other exchange. The LME operates in a highly regulated environment requiring strong legal involvement and expertise both for its core business and the development of new products.
The firm is at an exciting point in its history and is now looking for a legal administrative professional to join its legal department to help drive its strategic objectives and drive its next phase of growth.
The legal department is responsible for advising the business on a variety of legal and regulatory matters relating to metals trading and other associated products and services offered by the LME to drive the growth of the organisation. You will be expected to work closely with the General Counsel and the rest of the Legal team to help achieve this objective.
Your responsibilities will be varied and interesting and include business administrative work helping with budgets and legal spend management researching legal issues minuting meetings drafting simple legal documents preparing reports and presentations and assisting with the delivery thereof and strategy and business planning. Youll also be expected to take a leading role in driving our operational excellence agenda. You will have the opportunity to enhance your skillset in a variety of areas including your organisation skills drafting skills and communication and presentation skills. The role also provides the successful candidate a unique opportunity to work with a collegiate team interact with very senior people and to increase their knowledge of global financial markets.
Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include:
Research and analysis of specific legal and regulatory issues on a broad variety of issues.
Assisting the lawyers in providing advice to the business on a range of legal and regulatory matters.
Drafting and reviewing simple legal documentation notes of advice member notices and a broad range of commercial agreements.
Assisting the lawyers with amendments to the LME and LMEC rulebooks.
Preparing reports and presentations and assisting with the presentation thereof.
Proactively undertaking monitoring of legal and commercial regulatory changes as part of the departments general monitoring programme.
Managing external counsel with a view to minimising costs and maximising efficiency.
General administrative duties to support the efficient operation of the legal department
Academic and Professional Qualifications Required:
No professional qualifications required but the successful candidate must be a well organised and proactive self-starter with a genuine interest in the law and financial markets.
Previous experience working as a legal administrative professional is highly desirable but not necessary.
Excellent computer skills and an awareness of AI tools highly desirable.
The successful candidate must be a good team player.
Additionally it would be beneficial to have some understanding of the commercial legal and regulatory context of the financial services market in which the LME operates.
Required Knowledge and Level of Experience:
Previous experience in handling commercial contracts conducting legal research performing legal analysis and problem-solving highly desirable.
Good judgement commercial awareness and excellent organisational skills are essential.
Experience of working autonomously and knowing when to escalate issues where required.
Beneficial to have some understanding of the commercial legal and regulatory context of the financial services market in which the LME operates.
Excellent computer skills and an awareness of AI tools highly desirable.
