09/15/2025The Executive Director for Legal Services provides legal support to the District administration.The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and other key duties that may be required. Reports consistently for work as scheduled
Performs other duties as assigned
Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
Acts as the District hearing officer for expulsion recommendations
Assists with complaints filed with the Office for Civil Rights involving student issues as needed
Assists with preparation of a standardized student District handbook which all schools must use as a template in order to assure effective notice to parents and students of District policies and procedures
Assists with training District administrators and other District staff as appropriate on topics of legal importance (e.g. Section 504 law FERPA new federal or state laws that affect K-12 education)
Attends Board of Education meetings
Attends manifestation hearings Special Education staffings and 504 sessions as appropriate
Attends relevant conferences for the purpose of professional development including Council of School Attorney meetings
Coordinates the charter school application process for new charter school applicants as needed
Coordinates with the District General Counsel and other outside counsel as needed
May attend Colorado Association of School Executives legislative committee meetings
May oversee the process of enforcing compulsory attendance laws and approves funding for truancy court
May provide updates to Cabinet Board of Education and District stakeholder groups on local state and federal legislation related to K-12 education
Other duties as assigned
Participates in the negotiation process relative to the annual contract revisions with charter school(s) and contract school(s)
Participates in the Policy Review Committee that considers proposed revisions to and new administrative policies and regulations as may be required by new laws or to match policy to changes in practice
Provides guidance and advice to building administrators relative to the student discipline process and other legal matters as needed
Provides legal advice to the Board of Education as requested
Reviews and/or interprets contracts as needed
Supports the Special Education team as needed

Required Qualifications
Colorado License to Practice Law - Colorado Bar Association (CBA)
First-professional degree (e.g. D.C. or D.C.M. D.D.S. or D.M.D.M.D. O.D. D.O. . Pod.D. or D.P.M. D.V.M. J.D. . M.H.L. B.D. or Ordination) in Law
Be in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court licensing division
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 Years Experience in an Educational Setting
3-5 Years Legal or Legal Office Experience
3-5 Years Experience litigating or participating in cases regarding Special Education 504 IEPs etc.
