Are you excited about developing novel agentic AI solutions and leveraging them to automate Amazon operations Are you looking for opportunities to build and deploy them on real-world problems at a truly vast scale with global impact As part of AFT (Amazon Fulfillment Technologies) AI we are on a mission to build a new generation of dynamic end-to-end agentic solutions for our warehouses. These models will be able to understand and make use of petabytes of human-centered as well as process information from our warehouse systems and robotic work cells and learn to perceive and act to further improve our world-class customer experience at Amazon scale.

We are looking for a Manager of Applied Science who will lead this effort. Together we will be pushing beyond the state of the art GenAI to automate one of the most complex systems in the world: Amazons Fulfillment Network.




Key job responsibilities
In this role you will manage a talented team of scientists to to build large-scale GenAI models that will be able to understand and reason about the state of our buildings predict the best actions to take and then take them.

You will face a high level of research ambiguity and problems that require creative ambitious and inventive solutions. You will lead a team of scientists to solve problems that will drive transformative change on a truly global scale. You will collaborate with teams of engineers to leverage solutions in production. You will lead the vision and implementation and communicate both to higher level leadership at Amazon.

About the team
Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazons global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software hardware and data science solutions that orchestrate processes robots machines and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want when they want it.

The AFT AI team has deep expertise developing cutting edge AI solutions at scale and successfully applying them to business problems in the Amazon Fulfillment Network. These solutions typically utilize machine learning and computer vision techniques applied to text sequences of events images or video from existing or new hardware. We influence each stage of innovation from inception to deployment developing a research plan creating and testing prototype solutions and shepherding the production versions to launch.

- Masters degree in engineering technology computer science machine learning robotics operations research statistics mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- 6 years of applied research experience
- 3 years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application experience
- Experience directly managing scientists or machine learning engineers
- Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
- Experience building complex software systems especially involving deep learning machine learning and computer vision that have been successfully delivered to customers

- PhD in engineering technology computer science machine learning robotics operations research statistics mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience hiring and growing top talent
- Knowledge of LLMs Reinforcement Learning Agentic AI systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
