Title: Graduate Assistant (0000GA11) Center on Aging

Hiring Unit: Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health

Location: Manoa Campus

Date Posted: August 1 2025

Closing Date: August 15 2025

Salary Information: $2335.50per month or commensurate with qualifications and experience

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary


Other Conditions:

  • Pending availability of funds
  • Part-time (0.50 FTE)
  • To begin approximately September 1 2025 or as soon thereafter as possible
  • Not to exceed August 31 2026

  • Continuation dependent upon satisfactory performance program needs and availability of funding

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively in a team and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders in the aging network
  • Relate and communicate with other stakeholders in the aging network in a timely and respectful manner
  • Support project development coordination and implementation
  • Develop agendas for meetings take meeting minutes and support facilitation of meetings
  • Support project data collection and follow-up on missing data
  • Enter project data into database and conduct data analysis
  • Create tables charts graphs to visualize and share findings with stakeholders
  • Assist in writing narrative research and project summaries issue briefs and other reports
  • Assist in developing project presentations
  • Conduct literature reviews and internet searches to identify best practices and evidence-based models
  • Seek supervisory support as necessary when questions or concerns arise
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and workgroup meetings as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Classified University of Hawaii graduate student in good standing (GPA of 3.0 or above)
  • Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to communicate professionally respectfully and in a culturally sensitive manner. Fluency in speaking reading and writing English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment including working towards achieving common goals and performance measures.
  • Experience working in the field of aging
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively as a team.
  • Experience in use of computers telephone and word processing spreadsheet and presentation software.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Classified University of Hawaii at Manoa Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health graduate student (Center on Aging Public Health Social Work) with specialization in gerontology
  • Conducted aging-related research or worked on aging-related projects
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and/or government agencies in the aging network
  • Knowledge and understanding of aging policies programs and the systems of care for older adults
