  • SCHOOL WELLNESS CENTER MEDICAL ASSISTANT BILINGUAL
    (12 month position)


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High School Diploma or equivalent
    2. Completion of a medical assistant training program of at least six (6) months in duration from an accredited medical assistant school in California; medical assistant certification from a California Medical Board Certifying agency preferred
    3. Minimum of one year experience as a medical assistant preferably in a pediatric health care setting
    4. Working knowledge of Universal Precautions; demonstrates professionalism and confidentiality
    5. Customer service skills client focus abilities and the ability to client needs
    6. Ability to communicate effectively with staff students parents and community
    7. Valid first aid and CPR certification from recognized agency
    8. Valid drivers license and personal car for use on district business
    9. Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) may be required depending on assignment
    10. Must pass required tests

    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned


    JOB GOAL: To assist in the optimal provision of health mental health vision and dental care for students of the District who receive services at the BCSD Wellness Centers by supporting the practitioners families and other staff and providing necessary and supportive services to students families practitioners through the efficient and caring delivery of services

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Prepares patient appointments by reviewing and updating patient records prior to appointment including updated tests results lab tests and correspondence; reviews Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to determine needed services
    2. Prepares examination and treatment rooms for use by physicians nurse practitioners and other medical providers; cleans stocks and arranges supplies equipment and instruments; cleans rooms between patients for patient comfort and in compliance with infection control protocols
    3. Interviews patient to determine reason for visit; takes patients vital signs e.g. blood pressure pulse respiration temperature height and weight; records information in patients medical record; and reports findings to appropriate personnel according to standard requirements
    4. Reviews and communicates to physicians nurse practitioners and other medical providers appointment schedule to determine patient visit order and solicits special instructions or requests for the day; greets and escorts patient to examination or treatment room in a respectful warm and caring manner
    5. Keeps patients physicians nurse practitioners or other medical providers and other team members informed of physicians or other medical providers status and/or appointment delays

    SALARY: $17.93 - $29.23 per hour


    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbook Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable


    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

    REQUIRED TESTS:
    • Spanish Literacy test will be offered upon selection.(Bakersfield College - Tier II Bilingual Certificate will be accepted in lieu of district Spanish Literacy Test)

    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
