This position is a virtual math teaching position for the ALPs Math 3/4 (3rd Grade) and ALPs Math 4/5 (4th Grade) virtual courses.

JOB SUMMARY
Implements advanced and GT instructional programming/specialized curriculum in grades 3-5 virtual (or through a hybrid platform) broadcast and/or asynchronous; format is at the direction of the coordinator. Courses may provide instruction to students at one or more buildings based on system needs. Supports student learning through the implementation of district curriculum aligned to state and national standards. Delivers culturally responsive instruction which includes research-based strategies differentiation and best practices outlined at the District and Office level recognizing standards of excellence for Gifted and Talented. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual physical social and emotional development of students. Monitors and evaluates student achievement through teacher or district assessments developing and implementing plans to improve student performance. Maintains required records and adheres to district procedures and practices. Provides the leadership expertise and policy support to ensure that approved classes are implemented with fidelity supporting students as they improve their understanding and proficiency to reach their full academic potential. Supports schools in a variety of instructional strategies collaborative planning data analysis and assists in appropriate technology implementation in instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements content curriculum instruction and assessment with fidelity of specialized curriculum while providing research-based strategies differentiation culturally responsive and relevant lessons while meeting the needs of all students.
  • Collects analyzes and monitors identified course data and determines an instructional plan for student progress and achievement.
  • Collaboratives with the ALPs instructional team/Academics to ensure modeling backward mapping data analysis creation of formative assessments aligned to System expectations.
  • Participates in Content/Program Office and the system professional development activities.
  • Participates in academic enrichment and support opportunities for students.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians in the application of learning/provision of authentic contexts for mastery/independence.
  • When directed supports teacher capacity through modeling coaching peer observations and collaborative planning as it relates to fostering rigor.
  • Maintains accurate records of student performance and attendance; mileage.
  • Collaborates with coordinators and others to create and implement school procedures and guidelines to provide schools with steps for student identification data interpretation assessment analysis and scheduling of students.
  • Collaboratively researches best practices in the delivery of advanced/GT curriculum.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Masters Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Three (3) years exemplary elementary teaching experience required.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Experience with teaching class/advanced math curriculum or program(s)
  • Ability to Collect and Analyze data to inform instructional practices.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners especially advanced and gifted learners.
  • Familiarity or experience with electronic leave reporting/substitute requesting systems (e.g. SmartFind Express) electronic grade reporting (e.g. Power Teacher GradeBook) and electronic teacher/parent communication tool (e.g. ParentConnect) and ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras presenters and SmartBoards etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students parents colleagues school staff and Coordinator Office.
  • Experience implementing standards-based curriculum and assessments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records such as student grades attendance mileage.
  • Builds positive relationships with students families and co-workers.
  • Flexible strong time management skills independent
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing Microsoft Office Suite Word Excel Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses certifications and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Drivers License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
