Richmond City Council is seeking a dedicated highly organized and motivated professional for the role of Deputy Council Chief of Staff. This position provides assistance to the Council Chief of Staff in setting the strategic direction and management oversight for the Office of the Council Chief of Staff with particular focus on the Offices budget operations and ensures implementation of City Council goals policies and performance expectations related to financial oversight and budgetary analysis.
The incumbent will serve as a senior leader reporting directly to the Council Chief of Staff helping to lead and organize the entire Office of the Council Chief of Staff operations. This includes overseeing the budget operations and making interpretive decisions on behalf of the organization regarding financial analysis methodologies and budget review processes for executing the goals established by the Chief of Staff. Beyond budget responsibilities the Deputy Council Chief of Staff assists with coordinating office-wide activities managing cross-functional initiatives and ensuring seamless operations across all departmental functions. The Deputy assists the Council Council Chief of Staff and office staff throughout the annual budget review process and serves as Chief of Staff in all matters during their absence.
The ideal candidate must possess a strong record of operational excellence demonstrating thorough planning effective execution and the ability to assemble and motivate teams toward strong results. They must exhibit high emotional intelligence to navigate diverse stakeholder relationships and adapt their communication style accordingly. The role requires exceptional discretion professional judgment and critical thinking skills to develop refine and ensure adherence to organizational processes while continuously seeking improvement opportunities. The Deputy Council Chief of Staff will interact extensively with department officials City Council members and other stakeholders assisting with day-to-day Richmond City Council operations and assuming full responsibilities in the Council Chief of Staffs absence.
