SUMMARY

The Aviation Layer 1 Infrastructure Technician is responsible for installing and configuring network devices performing network maintenance and troubleshooting at the CLT Airport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages maintains protects and builds technology infrastructure. Provides support and implements technology needs.

Installs and maintains all Layer 1 cabling Infrastructure for the switch networks and virtual server environments.

Resolves trouble tickets responds to alerts for switches wireless access points other sensor devices down and replaces failed devices.

Provides installation and deployment assistance on various projects from all departments in City.

Supports configures programs upgrades maintains troubleshoots and repairs voice networks and system components power supplies peripherals and software programs.

Troubleshoots issues that occur after initial installation of data cabling (fiber/copper).

Monitors customer inquiries and ensures appropriate and timely solutions.

Install maintain troubleshoot and repair all Category and Non-Category based copper cabling Backbone and Horizontal for the entire Airport Campus which includes tenants and sub tenants.

Install maintain troubleshoot and repair all Optical Fiber based cabling Backbone and Horizontal for the entire Airport Campus which includes tenants and sub tenants.

Maintain Documentation and Records for all cabling systems optical fiber radio systems specialty systems cabling pathways both inside the terminal and the outside campus environment.

Responsible for cross connect and meeting cutover schedules for system rollout for Airport and Tenant systems.

Provide access and escort for contractors engineers consultants etc. for various needs in and around the Airport Campus.

Maintain over 200 communications rooms and/or spaces campus wide.

Performs related work as required.

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES:
Knowledge of:

English grammar spelling and punctuation

Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping

Modern office procedures methods and computer equipment

Networking fundamentals

Networking components such as routers modems switches and servers

Layer 1 Infrastructure best practices
Skill in:

Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.

Performing a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition subtraction multiplication division percentages and ratios

Leadership

Troubleshooting
Ability to:

Meet schedules and deadlines of the work.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.

Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Mitigate security risks and ensure network compliance with policies and procedures.

Work on installations upgrades and root cause analysis of service outages

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent and 3 years of relevant experience
  • 2 Year College Degreeor 1-year relevant experience
  • Bachelors Level Degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an associates degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field.
  • BICSI certification if not certified obtain within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Familiar with fiber optic and copper cabling.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and requires medium physical effort. Incumbents may be required to exert up to up to 35 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Positions in this class typically require grasping stooping squatting kneeling crouching reaching pushing talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.


Physical Requirements:

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting standing climbing or walking extended periods of time

Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching stooping squatting crawling reaching pushing and pulling when performing tasks.

Adequate vision hearing and speech required.


Sensory Requirements:

Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual audio and other sensory modalities) for proof reading data entry tabulating data

Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises which in return could result in some level of stress fatigue or strain.

Comprehensive of written information in work related documents

Ability to hear understand and distinguish speech.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Citys Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes but is not limited to: reference checks social security verification education verification criminal conviction record check and if applicable a credit history check sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process candidates may be asked to take a skills test and/or participate in other assessments.
