Primary Responsibility
Under the supervision of the Program and Facilities Director this position assists with care of animals and facilities at Vet Tech. The Animal Care Assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality animal husbandry for all resident animals and ensures a safe and effective learning environment. This position needs to be available to work weekends and some holidays. Must be punctual reliable and courteous.
*This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMCs workweek. CMCs workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include a High School Diploma/GED and 1 years related work experience. Knowledge of large animals is preferred but not required.
Special Skills or abilities related to position: Cleaning and maintenance of all animal enclosures. Stocking of animal feed including heavy bags and bales of hay. Grooming and cleaning of animals. Grounds keeping for the facilities. The ability to work with multiple species (exotics small mammals etc.) knowledge of large animals preferred but not necessary.
Exhibit exceptional verbal written analytical and interpersonal skills. Maintain confidentiality discretion and professionalism. Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility teamwork and humor.

The hiring pay rate is $19.54 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution annual and sick time mental health resources and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidates skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed this will be set commensurate with the successful candidates qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
Position anticipated to close on Tuesday August 12 2025 or until filled.
Essential Duties
Cleaning and maintenance of all animal enclosures.
Stocking of animal feed including heavy bags and bales of hay.
Grooming and cleaning of animals.
Grounds keeping for the facilities.
Weekend weekday and some holiday feeding of animals.
Cross training of all duties.
Other duties as assigned
Supervision Received
The position reports to a designated supervisor. Position usually works within the framework of responsibilities but may require guidance at times.
Supervisory Responsibility
Position has no supervisory responsibility.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting occasional walking standing and driving; occasional handling objects pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements; occasional lifting carrying pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oralcommunication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
