Job Duties:

Are you looking for an interesting and exciting career in veterinary medicine

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or microbiologist) to join our fast-paced service-oriented Clinical Pathology Laboratory. This position provides primary technical support in the clinical microbiology area of the laboratory with additional support provided in the areas of immunology and accession receiving. This position performs technical clinical laboratory responsibilities in support of the 24/7 needs of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The anticipated schedule for this role will be Monday-Friday from 8:30am - 5:30pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch. The incumbent will also be scheduled every 2nd or 3rd Saturday from 8:00am-10:00am. Schedule is subject to change based on department needs.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Processes and performs medical laboratory testing on biological specimens
  • Assists with the development and updating of standard operating procedure(s) (SOPs) according to established guidelines
  • Analyzes and documents test results and related data
  • Maintains organization of established record keeping system(s) instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting logs and quality control and proficiency testing documentation
  • Provide support in the main laboratory accession receiving area

  • Uses maintains performs quality control calibrates and sets up lab equipment according to established polices and procedures
  • Prepares and assures quality of solutions and reagents according to established procedures
  • Coordinates the maintenance testing and administration of instrumentation devices
  • Serves as the primary point of contact to internal and external stakeholders within a work unit answers questions and leads the workflow of unit staff as needed
  • Logs data and findings and enters results into a patients medical records
  • Provide support in the immunology area of the laboratory

Compensation:

$21.00 per hour minimum
