Downer is committed to developing the next generation of industry leaders. Our Transport & Infrastructure Cadet Program offers a unique opportunity for first and second-year university students to gain hands-on experience while studying - working on real projects building networks and learning from industry experts.

We welcome applications from people whose backgrounds experiences or perspectives may not always be represented in our industry. You dont need to tick every box or have a traditional background - your potential and perspective matter.

Program Highlights

What Youll Do

Over the course of the program (typically three years) youll complete structured placements across areas such as:

  • Onsite contracting projects with delivery crews.
  • Project engineering and management.
  • Contract and commercial management.
  • Asphalt production.
  • Major infrastructure projects (e.g. airports).
  • Laboratory testing and innovation.
  • Finance and business operations.

Program Eligibility

You are eligible for the Cadet program if you have working rights in Australia and are enrolled in your first or second year of an undergraduate degree studying in discipline/s of:

  • Engineering
  • Finance (Accounting)
  • Commerce
  • Science

You must be available on the 27th and 28th November 2025 for Cadet Induction and available for full time work from the induction days through to late February 2026 prior to the recommencement of university semester.

Note: subsequent years of the Cadet Program you will be required to be available for full time work for the same period (i.e late November to late February).

Key Dates

  • Cadet Induction: Thursday 27 and Friday 28 November 2025 (mandatory).
  • Applications close: Friday 29 August 2025.
  • Full-time summer work: Late November 2025 to Late February 2026.
