Position Duties

The Airport Department is currently recruiting to fill a Senior Electrician position within the Facilities and Engineering Division. The Airport Electrical Trade Division is responsible for the maintenance repair and improvements to the Airports buildings and terminals the associated grounds and the airfield on a seven day a week twenty-four hour a day operational schedule.

The Senior Electrician position is a working lead position that requires advanced knowledge and experience with maintenance and repair work including electrical safety programs and procedures. This position will include responsibility for all Airport assets including principal responsibility for the airfield lighting and control systems. Additional responsibilities include serving as a lead to staff; assigning and monitoring work; providing direction; operating maintaining troubleshooting retrofitting and repairing electrical equipment and systems at the Airport; fabricating and installing electrical systems and components; reviewing work orders and purchasing electrical supplies including coordinating and managing electrical projects at the Airport; responding to emergencies as needed; and performing work on the card reader system building management system vehicle gates fire system generators automatic doors roll up doors roadways and parking lot lights runway and ramp lights and all other Airport electrical systems as needed.

This position is intended for day and/or swing shift or graveyard shift and may also be required to work on weekends and holidays as well as serving standby.

Leads and performs the installation maintenance and repair of electrical equipment parts systems in City facilities infrastructure and substations; reads and reviews blueprints and electrical diagrams; operates a variety of electrical test equipment and specialized hand tools; orders parts andmaterials for work to be performed; maintains logs and prepares reports on work activities.

Minimum Qualifications

(These qualifications are typically required. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted.)

Education and Experience
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program AND experience equivalent to two (2) years of experience as a journey level Electrician.

Acceptable Substitution
Documented proof of completion of 8500 hours of both course work and experience in all of the areas covered in the State of California Electrician Apprenticeship Standards may be substituted for completion of a recognized Electrician Apprenticeship program. These areas include residential wiring commercial and industrial wiring intercom and signals controls underground work trouble shooting finishing and fixture hanging solid state controls and stock and inventory. Completion of the State of California Electrician Certification exam will be accepted as proof of completion of 8500 hours of electrical work experience.

Required Licensing (such as drivers license certifications etc.)

Job Expertise - Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices Citywide and departmental procedures/policies and federal and state rules and regulations ; Knowledge of fundamentals and theories of electricity and electronics; Knowledge of National Electrical Codes; Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR 139) and Advisory Circulars (ACs);Knowledge of operations and maintenance of airfield lighting systems (i.e. constant current regulators series circuits controls etc.) building and distribution systems (12kV and below) street lighting and associated electrical equipment; Knowledge of electrical maintenance requirements for ground support equipment including but not limited to passenger boarding bridges 400Hz ground power pre-conditioned air; Skilled in assigning and monitoring work; Skilled in troubleshooting electrical problems; Skilled in installing and maintaining electrical systems and equipment; Skilled in operating and maintaining electric motors transformers generators controls and other electrical equipment; Ability to read and interpret blueprints schematics and electrical documents; Skilled in programming Programmable Logic Controllers; Skilled in examining and diagnosing electrical systems and equipment; Understanding of Title 24 section of Californias building standards code. Experience with automated building management systems (Delta Controls); Experience using a computer maintenance management system work orders (HEXAGON): Ability to use computers and related software applications.
