The City of Abbotsford is looking for qualified professional and knowledgeable Auxiliary Fitness Workers Zumba Instructors to teach Zumba at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre and Matsqui Recreation Centre. The focus is to provide an excellent energetic class for all participants for physical and mental health.

Under the supervision of the Fitness Supervisor team the Fitness Worker Zumba Instructor is responsible for planning and executing fitness classes within their scope of practice. The main focus areas for the Fitness Worker Zumba Instructor is inclusiveness of all participants as well as safety. The City offers a variety of already designed and well attended drop-in as well as pre-registered classes that help keep the members of our city healthy and active. Classes take place in classrooms and weight rooms at the Citys recreation centres.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide a well-planned lesson for each class and adapt lessons to the abilities of the class including completing attendance reports
  • Provide supervision and instruction to fitness center patrons effectively and in a professional manner
  • Provide instruction to patrons for safe use of fitness equipment review rules and facility safety
  • Enforce general rules of conduct for the fitness facilities
  • Respond to first aid incidents and complete appropriate first aid and safety documentation
  • Inspect fitness equipment and report repairs timely
  • Provide outstanding customer service and effective communication
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment to the diverse community of Abbotsford.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Current Standard First Aid CPR C & AED certification
  • Current BCRPA Fitness Theory Certification or equivalent.
  • Current ZIN standings and Zumba Basic Certification or equivalent
  • Additional certifications BCRPA or equivalent considered an asset
  • Specialized certifications such as Together in Movement and Exercise certification Fraser Health Cardiac Rehabilitation certification Pre/Post Natal certification considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow and carry-out oral and written communication in English
  • Ability to prepare documents and communication
  • Ability to apply the theory-based knowledge in anatomy and physiology as it applies to the work performed.
  • Knowledge of the standard of care within your scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of fitness equipment and functions
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of email and recreation scheduling software

The candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.
