A Mechanic Assistant supports mechanics in the repair maintenance and servicing of vehicles or equipment. The position involves tasks such as assisting with inspections repairs and routine maintenance organizing and maintaining tools and parts cleaning work areas and ensuring all necessary materials are available for the mechanic. The role requires attention to detail basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to follow instructions while working safely in a team-oriented environment. The mechanic assistant plays a key role in increasing shop efficiency and supporting overall vehicle routine and regularly scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on all the vehicles in the fleet on a self-guided basis ie. fluid changes and fills greasing of components routine wheel nut checks and routine safety inspections of all fleet vehicles. minor reactive maintenance on a self-guided basis such as light bulb replacements tire changing/building windshield wiper replacement seat repairs and interior a school bus route or 7D route as need accurate inventory of parts and supplies used as needed and electronically document all maintenance performed to relay to mechanics for re-ordering as needed with winter weather response which includes starting of busses ahead of time on cold days as well as snow removal mechanics in the shop as necessary on larger tasks or in the event of down time. with inspection efforts including shuttling to inspection locations and shuttling busses in and out of bays during school bus inspections with emergency road-side services when in ongoing training and maintain certifications to remain up to date on new technologies equipment and repair a clean and safe working environment including maintaining tools and equipment in proper all safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents or injuries in the other duties as determined by Administration.
