You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailJOB DESCRIPTION: This position includes but is not limited to structural and craft work in maintenance and repair of all types of vehicles including emergency vehicles and other specialized equipment. The primary emphasis is on the safety and maintenance of POLICE and other LAW ENFORCEMENT TYPE VEHICLES including the installation and removal of all related equipment.
Primary responsibilities include:
Diagnose and repair police communication equipment to maintain mobile data terminals printers adapters and modems.
Operates wreckers and ramp trucks to recover vehicles containing evidence for criminal investigations.
Operates oxyacetylene plasma cutter metal pro devises and electric welding to repair design and fabricate equipment.
Installs repairs and adjusts emergency lights and sirens alternators throttle body (TBI) sequential fuel injection (SFI) fuel delivery and electrical systems to ensure safe efficient operation of fleet vehicles and related emergency equipment.
Diagnose reprogram and repair components of electronic and mechanical instruments using the latest computer software to maintain fully equipped and operable vehicles.
Organizes requisitions and maintains supplies and equipment to ensure adequate inventory.
Writes repair orders for each vehicle serviced listing all parts labor description of work done and vehicle information to establish and document vehicle and equipment history.
Diagnoses repairs and rebuilds pursuit vehicle engines transmissions and other drivetrain components to maintain a safe and dependable fleet of vehicles.
Road tests high speed patrol vehicles in excess of posted speed limits (when necessary and authorized by a supervisor) to ensure the correct diagnosis repair and proper function of the vehicles engine transmission and other emergency equipment.
Perform other tasks as assigned by a supervisor including but not limited to snow removal vehicle transportation operation of light equipment school bus inspections running for parts and supplies and dropping off same when needed etc
Minimum qualifications:
Four (4)years experienceand/or education in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of vehicles.
Applicants must possess their own tools and hold both a valid Maine Drivers License and a Maine Inspection License. Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check.
