Job Description

Position: Long Term Substitute Integrated Preschool Teacher

Department/Location: Nashoba Regional School District - Florence Sawyer School/Emerson

Organizational Scope:

The Nashoba Regional School District is seeking aneight (8) week long term subsitute Integrated Preschool Teacher to lead a classroom providing direct instruction to preschoolers with and without disabilities.

The Preschool Teacher works alongside and collaborates with a strong team of teachers therapists and teaching assistants to provide high quality intervention and instruction.Ongoing support is provided by administration BC and others as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Screening and identifying children who may have disabilities;
  2. Coordinating special education evaluation procedures and acting as the liaison; Conducting diagnostic assessments and preparing related reports;
  3. Developing and writing Individualized Education Plans in conjunction with parents and other professionals;
  4. Attending special education Team meetings;
  5. Delivering instructional services and interventions individually in a small group setting and/or the classroom in accordance with the students Individual Education Plan;
  6. Developing adapting and modifying curriculum materials for students with disabilities that correlate with regular education peers;
  7. Conferencing and communicating regularly with parents and other professionals on behalf of students with disabilities and typical learners;
  8. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  9. The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the positions responsibilities if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

Job Requirements:

  1. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as Teacher of Young Children with and without Special Needs or comparable licensure;
  2. Special Education License preferred;
  3. Experience working with a multidisciplinary team;
  4. Experience with diverse populations excellent communication skills both orally and in written form;
  5. Experience with ABA methodologies specifically the creation of programs and associated data collection;
  6. Knowledge of social-emotional-behavioral development in young children;
  7. Experience with a range of disabilities;
  8. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of all learners in the classroom; Understanding of Massachusetts Preschool Frameworks; Knowledge evidence-based and other best practices for instruction.
  9. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property and assist in fire and other emergencies or emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.
  10. The ability to work onsite in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job.

Physical demands vary in keeping with the assignment and age of the students but the position generally requires the ability to walk and stand on tile flooring to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and to bend and twist regularly at the waist knees and neck.

Depending on assignment much of the work is performed in a typical classroom environment requiring minimal to light physical effort. This may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of a school setting such as proximity to students and colleagues temperature variations frequent interruptions and moderate noise. This position may require the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment


Terms of Employment Evaluation of Performance and Salary:

The Special Education Teacher is a Nashoba Regional School District Unit A position. Terms of employment including evaluation and salary are covered by the provisions of the Unit A collective bargaining agreement currently in effect.
