Metros Service Development Sectionhas an exciting Special Duty opportunityto come train and contribute to the Scheduling group. This position offers first-hand experience working as part of the Scheduling group. This SDA is expected to last at least 6 months in duration. Scheduling Trainee experience has proven to be essential for those seeking career service placement in the Scheduling group longer term.
Job Duties
As the SDA Transit Senior Schedule Planner (Scheduling Trainee) you will:
- Learn about transit scheduling principles and techniques.
- Learnhowschedulesare integratedwithbusstopdata.
- Assistwitheffortstoimproveservicereliabilityandaccesstocomfortstations.
- Gainhands-onexperiencedevelopingormodifyingvehicleandcrewschedulesforupcomingservicechanges.
- Help plan and implement special service to address impacts on transit service associated with major events like sporting or civic events movie and film requests.
- Interact with work groups beyond Bus Operations throughout Metro includingService PlanningTransit Route Facilities Vehicle MaintenanceCustomer Communication andServicesEvent Organizers andexternaljurisdictions.
- Perform other Scheduling related duties as assigned.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
We are looking for candidates who have:
- A strong interest in the technical work behind transit schedules.
- Good written communication skills especially in the form of written instruction.
- Anabilitytoworkinateamenvironmentbementoredbyothers andlearnnewtechnicalskills.
- AninterestinunderstandingtherolesandresponsibilitiesofScheduling.
- Knowledgeofcityandcountygeographyandareatrafficpatterns.
- Knowledge of the various fleet types operated by Metro.
- Excellentoraland writtencommunicationskills;excellentinterpersonalskills.
- Customerserviceskills.
- Abilitytoworkindependentlyandsetprioritiestomeetcriticalproductiondeadlines.
- Ability to work with a diverse team.
- Skillinmathematicsandstatisticalcalculations.
- Skillin enteringandextractinginformationfromautomatedinformationsystems.
- Skill in planning assigning balancing and checking work.

*PER LOCAL 587 CONTRACT RULES THIS SDA OPPORTUNITY IS OPEN TO METROS FIRST LINE BUS SUPERVISORS FIRST LINE RAIL OR STREETCAR SUPERVISORS OR OSS COORDINATORS. SUPERVISORS-IN-TRAINING (SITs) ARE NOT ALLOWED TO FILL THIS POSITION UNTIL THEIR SIT TRAINING IS COMPLETE. SITs CAN APPLY IN ANTICIPATION OF COMPLETING THEIR TRAINING IN TIME FOR THE START OF THIS ASSIGNMENT.

Work Location
The primary location for this position is remote. The onsite location is King Street Center 201 S. Jackson Street Seattle WA.
Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly in a hybrid work environment working on site occasionally but primarily from home/remote. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities as needed. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
