  1. Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at KU or KUMC with a course of study in speech language pathology psychology special education applied behavioral sciences or related field.
  2. Experience observing live or recorded human communication or social behaviors in the classroom community or other related settings.
  3. Experience using Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel Word SharePoint) for organizing tracking or communicating information as evidenced by application materials and/or the interview process.
  4. Effective organization skills and attention to detail as evidenced by application materials and/or the interview process.
  5. Strong oral communication skills as determined through the interview process.


  1. Coursework in speech language pathology psychology special education applied behavioral sciences or related field.
  2. Experience collecting/coding behavioral data on children with autism or other developmental disabilities.
  3. Six months experience with the conduct of research on funded projects.
  4. Experience with augmentative and alternative communication voice output apps.


Position Overview
The Juniper Gardens Childrens Project (JGCP; ) is seeking to hire a Student Hourly to assist with an NIH funded research project. We are seeking a student researcher for a study that aims to improve social communication skills of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are learning to use an iPad as an augmentative and alternative communication system.

We are seeking a Student Hourly Researcher to work 15%-25% FTE (6 to 10 hours per week). The Student Hourly will work with guidance from the project Principal and Co-Investigators. Primary responsibilities will include assistance with behavioral coding data entry and management iPad programming and team collaboration.
This position requires reliable transportation. It also requires strong organizational skills attention to detail and the ability to work with a team of professionals.

The position is at JGCP located in downtown Kansas City Kansas in the Childrens Campus of Kansas City building 444 Minnesota Ave Suite 300 Kansas City KS 66101.

The initial training period will be onsite at JGCP. This position may then be a hybrid of on-site work and telework (from Missouri or Kansas) as training is completed and as deemed by supervisor.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
