REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicatedSpecial Education Teacherto serve students with a range of learning and behavioral needs. The ideal candidate will be student-centered highly collaborative and skilled at designing and delivering instruction aligned with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
The Special Education Teacher will work closely with related service providers support staff and a co-teachers to create a structured engaging and nurturing learning environment that helps each student meet their academic behavioral and social-emotional goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver engaging differentiated lesson plans aligned with theREACH curriculum and students IEP goals using small-group center-based and individualized instruction.
- Implement and modify instruction to meet diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Regularly assess student performance and progress towardstate standards and IEP goals; adjust instruction based on data.
- Develop and maintain a positive inclusive classroom environment throughproactive behavior management strategies and clear expectations for students.
- Provideexplicit instruction in social-emotional learning executive functioning and behavioral regulation as appropriate to student needs.
- Write implement and monitor studentIndividualized Education Programs (IEPs); ensure all services and supports are delivered with fidelity.
- Prepare for and actively participate inCommittee on Special Education (with the schools Special Education Coordinator) meetings clearly articulating student progress strengths and needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers related service providers and other team members to support student success.
- Co-teach or collaborate with a partner teacherto teach engaging differentiated lessons.
- Model and teach behavioral expectations proactively addressing behaviors before they escalate. Work with support staff to implementBehavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)when applicable.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding academic and behavioral progress; maintain detailed records of parent communication student progress and interventions.
- Provide a classroom management plan that ensures student safety and engagement at all times.
- Execute daily lesson plans and unit plans in all assigned subjects and blocks.
- Implement all REACH routines policies and procedures with consistency and fidelity.
- Participate actively in professional development coaching and weekly team planning meetings.
- Accept feedback from instructional coaches and school leaders incorporating strategies to improve instructional practice and student outcomes.
- Analyze student performance data regularly and engage in reflective practice to adjust instruction.
- Maintain compliance with all documentation requirements including progress monitoring report cards and IEP reporting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications/Education and/or Experience
Teachers must hold a NYS professional teaching certificate in their subject area or be eligible for reciprocity to include (1) Minimum Bachelors degree in subject area to be taught Masters Degree preferred; (2) Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom and commitment to accountability preferred ; (3) Belief in and alignment with REACH Academy Charter School core beliefs and educational philosophy; (4) Valid New York State Certification except in cases where the Head of School shall make an exception under the terms of this Policy in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Salary
In accordance with REACH Academy Charter Schools salary step scale and verification of prior years of teaching. Step 1 starts at $45000 and Step 11 is $65830. You must have a valid teaching certificate to start on the salary steps or be working towards completion of certification.
