Qualifications:
Masters degree preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate in appropriate grade level and/or specified content area
Three years teaching experience at the secondary level
Leadership experience working with adults
Experience in the design and delivery of staff development
Experience in writing curriculum
Working knowledge of state standards and research-based instructional best practices
Working knowledge of assessment and data analysis
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Emotional intelligence to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues
Growth mindset in the abilities of students colleagues and self
Aptitude for learning and mastering new technologies
Primary Purpose:
The Instructional Specialist provides leadership in a specific core subject area or program and expertise in curriculum design and delivery staff development and instructional models.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Articulate the districts mission philosophy and implementation strategies to the community and solicit support in the realization of the goals as they pertain to curriculum alignment and instructional delivery.
- Serve as a facilitator to assist teachers in implementing the district curriculum in accordance with the district goals.
- Work in collaboration with other district curriculum and instructional staff members to align supports including professional learning.
- Plan facilitate present and evaluate professional learning that supports the aligned curriculum.
- Assist teachers with lesson planning and lesson plan review for effectiveness.
- Provide support to campuses through coaching modeling and mentoring.
- Review and create professional online learning utilizing the districts learning management system.
- Support KISD instructional coaches as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with other district departments to assure cooperative communication between and among departments.
- Collaborate with secondary content coordinators and virtual school coordinators for effective professional learning centered on curriculum design and best instructional practices.
- Assist teachers in refining appropriate delivery strategies based upon research of best practices.
- Collaborate with identified campuses instructional leaders to build capacity and identify areas for professional learning.
- Support campuses with professional learning needs.
- Assist with content specific Professional Development tasks as determined by the director.
- Keep current with best practices in instruction through membership in professional organizations and attendance and presentations at conferences and training workshops.
- Serve as professional model for effective teaching.
- Attend content or program specific meetings when requested.
- Serve on district committees as assigned.
- Use data to make decisions in evaluating the effectiveness of the departments initiatives as they relate to the districts plans and program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Personal computer printer and copier.
Working Conditions:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations; moderate lifting and carrying occasional out of district travel.
