GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is an agency committed to providing a safe high-quality and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. This position will coordinate with WYDOTs Employee Safety Program to ensure district employees are trained and adhering to WYDOTs safety-related policies and procedures and state and federal safety requirements. We are currently seeking an OSHA Specialist to ensure a safe working environment for all WYDOT employees through training certifying and instructing formal and informal training classes. This position will be located in Laramie Wyoming.

The beautiful Curt Gowdy State Park is a quick 25 miles to the east and offers camping boating and fishing. Laramie is home to the University of Wyoming and Cowboy Joe. Wyoming is one of seven states with no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.


  • Ensures employees attain and apply all aspects of personal and workplace safety.
  • Collaborates with WYDOT supervisors and department management.
  • Takes proactive steps through site visits and incident investigations to ensure district employees are applying personal and workplace safety.
  • Collaborates with the district facilities coordinator on annual informal inspections of all the districts facilities to ensure all safety compliance are utilized.
  • Completes inspection reports and tracks documented deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Provides on-the-job training during routine and special surveys for inspections.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to ensure any identified hazards are corrected.
  • Assists with review of current safety policies and procedures including current program/crew safety programs.
  • Attend and support crew and job site safety meetings.
  • Prepare training materials and training aids.
  • Coordinate training sites and schedules.
  • Provide guidance training and best practices.
  • Research develop and propose best practices in safe operating procedures and policies.
  • Aid in updating and developing WYDOT Safety manuals and policies.
  • Create and manage electronic forms and utilize WYDOTs safety management and computer database systems.
  • Create data analysis reports.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Must have the ability to obtain a Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) for construction and general industries within 18 months.
Must have the ability to obtain a CDL.
Preference may be given to those with OSHA 10
Preference may be given to those with 30 30-hour instructor certification
Preference may be given to those with First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult Child Infant) certification
Preference may be given to those with Hazardous Materials Specialist certification

**Agency requires the applicant to possess a valid drivers license.


KNOWLEDGE:



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)

Education:
Bachelors Degree
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)
