Job Description

Assistant Mens Basketball Coach
Department: Athletics
Location: Columbia MO
Type: Staff Full-time
Pay: $30000 per year (Pay range may vary based on geographic location)

Job Summary:
Assistant Mens basketball coach provide overall support to the head mens basketball coach as well as will assist the Associate Athletic Director and Director of Athletics in the promotion of the Cougar Athletic Department.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Athletic Department.
  • Maintain the integrity of the athletic program through the knowledge and application of NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Assist the Head mens basketball coach in all day-to-day operations of the program including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Identification of potential student-athletes recruitment of qualified student-athletes and maintenance of recruitment files.
  • Organization and coordination of daily practice plans.
  • Game day preparations including court set-up and break down uniform and equipment preparation game-plan preparation warm-up activities and game evaluation.
  • Inventory management of uniforms and equipment and input into purchasing decisions on new equipment.
  • Video operations and analysis.
  • Scouting of opponents.
  • Monitoring and supervision of student-athletes to include athletic activities academic progress eligibility concerns and disciplinary issues.
  • Work effectively with students student-athletes administrators faculty staff parents alumni officials and coaching peers.
  • Assist in regular updating of the Cougar website
  • Coordinate production of athletic printed promotional and game-day materials
  • Be supportive of all athletic teams and athletic department personnel.
  • Assist in local and national award nominations for students and staff
  • Assist in game day administrative duties for assigned sports
  • Record edit and produce various video clips.
  • Be active in department wide fundraising activities and related professional duties.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies regardless of method of communication.
  • Attend work timely and during the established hours of operation on a regular basis; work additional hours as business necessitates.

Skills:
  • Ability to fluently read write and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following but not limited to: instructing speaking management of personnel resources; monitoring; judgment and decision making; learning strategies; active listening; complex problem solving; coordination; and critical thinking.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal customer service and organizational skills with all constituents.
  • Video editing and production
  • Graphic design skills


Education: Masters degree preferred.

Experience: Basketball coaching experience at the collegiate level


Preferred Education/Experience: Two years experience working in a college athletic department environment


Employment Requirements:
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment and on an annual basis during employment.
  • Ability to pass a drug test as a condition of employment and during employment and on a random basis or as required if probable cause or reasonable suspicion.

Special Requirements:
  • Ability to work various hours including many nights and weekends. Over-night and out-of-state travel required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Video editing and production skills
  • Creative thinker and high sense of self-motivation.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements as an approved driver for Columbia College.
