Director of Portfolio Management

Neighborhood Impact Investment Fund is a place-based non-profit investment fund with a mission to mobilize capital and leverage partnerships that support community development drive economic opportunity and promote equity in Baltimores disinvested neighborhoods. Launched in 2019 NIIF is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the US Department of Treasury that has committed over $75 million in loans and investments in Baltimore communities.

We are seeking a Director of Portfolio Management to enhance relationships and risk management of NIIFs growing loan portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer this role ensures efficient compliant and mission-driven oversight of loans throughout their life cycle. The Director will oversee ongoing portfolio management including loan reviews on a semi-annual basis. NIIF envisions that the Director will create and implement robust procedures as necessary and in alignment with NIIFs mission and impact goals. As the portfolio grows we expect that this position may be supported by a more junior staff member.

Successful candidates for the position will need to demonstrate the following:

  • An ability to design and build portfolio management infrastructure and policies to help NIIF execute and achieve our mission.
  • Solid understanding of credit risk financial statements and loan servicing best practices.
  • Strong relationship management communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal commitment to delivering high-quality service to current and prospective clients and partners in a collaborative manner.

Responsibilities:

Loan Administration

  • Assist in loan closings in collaboration with lending and finance staff to ensure compliance with NIIF policies and credit approvals and serve as the primary post-closing contact for borrowers.
  • Oversee loan servicing and loan collections developing and modifying processes and procedures to ensure they are optimized for serving target communities.
  • Track and manage payment schedules escrows allowances and reserves.
  • Collaborate with lending staff to prepare loan modification extension conversion or annual review approvals and/or documentation.

Portfolio / Risk Management

  • Collaborate with the Chief Lending Officer and Construction Lending Specialist in setting ongoing loan reporting requirements and overseeing closing collection and evaluation of required reporting of financial and impact data for all transactions.
  • Oversee all covenant-related reporting collection and evaluation.
  • Maintain current insurance policy for all loans including those in the midst of construction and ensure policy is properly converted at completion.
  • Identify early signs of borrower stress and coordinate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Direct NIIFs handling of all troubled loans including working with Chief Lending Officer and Construction Lending Specialist (if applicable) in structuring / approving all modifications extensions and collections strategies.
  • Conduct regular reviews of credit and lending administration processes focusing on both financial and impact metrics.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Lead semi-annual reviews of all loans to assess credit and operating risk and monitor health of the loan portfolio including conducting borrower check-ins and site visits as needed and establishing and recommending changes to loan-related reserves and / or write-offs as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure both financial performance and community impact demonstrating the CDFIs effectiveness in achieving its mission.
  • Prepare and present regular reports for CEO and the board on loan portfolio performance compliance status and community impact.

General

  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on strategic initiatives related to credit and lending administration considering the social and economic needs of target communities.
  • Research and implement innovative practices and technologies in portfolio management to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business administration finance community development or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in lending administration with progressive leadership responsibilities and preferably in a CDFI or similar mission-driven organization.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated success managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and loan management systems.
  • Enjoy collaborating with diverse team members who are working together to re-envision how we combine investments and financial expertise to drive change in communities.

Compensation:

The anticipated annualized salary range is $100000 to $120000 for full time employment along with a benefits package including medical insurance HSA and retirement benefits. A generous paid time off program is also available.
